Blackberries...
    #23392651 - 06/28/16 11:21 PM (7 years, 7 months ago)

Hey all I'm not sure where to post this but here it goes. I was wondering how one would go about. Cloning a seedless thornless BlackBerry bush. Thanks!

I have that variety in my garden.

I suggest a couple methods.

1- Bend the top of the cane, back to the dirt and cover the top with dirt. This will cause the plant to set root from the top. You will then, in the next season have 2 plant sites. Blackberries root easily if the soil is fairly moist.

Here in my area, Caning the berry canes and bending them back to the earth can make (rows) of plants. you can train them to grow similarly to how grapes can be trained.

2- You can take cuttings from the green vegetative tops (without fruiting sprays), and root them in damp potting mix amended with some sand. or simply opt for your own favorite cloning method from vegetative tip.

3- save some seeds and cold stratify the seed in the refrigerator for a month in moist seed starting mix, and move to seed starting tray/ heating mat etc. If you are lucky, you may get some seedlings that will be thorn-less too. You would just have to (cull) the ones with thorns.

the best way in my opinion is top-set cane-clone. That is the easiest method for in the yard/field outdoor growth. Followed by cutting-clone method.
