Would anyone else be able to give a little more info? This is my first possibly active find so I'm really curious/excited to know if I can safely consume.

Looks like a yellow gym to me too but it's hard to see if there's a ring on the stem in your pics. If you want to be sure do a spore print. It should be a nice rusty brown. Yes, they are mildly active.

Don't even need to spore print I can see the rusty spores at the base of cap/top of stem. Safe to consume then? And is it better to make tee or just eat?

Stem is hollow in center with reddish coloring on stem. Base of stem had some blue/green. Taste was mildly bitter. Stem bruised dark brown/black. Anything else I should look for?

Very interesting find for this time of year. Here late fall, to early winter is gym season..And mostly in the Fall.Though summer there is a small inactive gym that grows all over the place around here. As for the active ones here, I find that gyms bruising blue on the base, (multiple species) to be quite a unique experience, I'm not gonna throw up any exact species IDs on Gyms right now because honestly it's been quite a while Yet in my own time I will come back in full force as the knowledge is all still there. Just a matter of putting it into full practice again. Been here going on 19 years and hunting for 25. Comes back like riding a bike once back in the field.
I actually have a monograph for gyms. Rare book I bought years ago, packed away. I definitely be interested in studying those specimens further had I discovered them myself. Your specimen looks a little degraded, over matured but far as I can tell fits the profile. I've had gyms myself with no ring.

I also found a smaller specimen on the same log. Identical cap. But the flesh when I cut it is purple and bruised to blue. Again bitter taste. Same thing just younger? (To small to get a good picture)

You may wanna dry them out and store them until you find more because those 2 mushrooms you found will not be near enough to get any kind of trip out of.

I haven't had any actives in probably 5 years so I'm going to try it. (I seem to have a low tolerance so don't mind starting small) What is normal dosage? I've read contradicting info. I'll keep you guys posted on results. Hoping I popped my active cherry.

Have fun...hoping you'll feel some mild trippy sensations to pique your psilocybe interest again.
