best USB radar detectors?

Has it saved you lots of potential tickets by giving you warnings? It has for me. Time for an upgrade though. I have an Escort but it only uses cig light input and can't upgrade to USB. They sell USB radar detectors now so I'm shoppin around. What have you guys used? Are the Cobras any good? From what someone told me Escort is like the top of the line. Mine cost a few hundred bucks I think 299 or 399 can't remember.

Cobras are shit. Not even worth a mention. If you are buying a radar detector.. buy top of the line. Valentine One, Escort Redline are two of the best. Pricey.. but you get what you pay for, especially when it comes to detectors. Buy a cheap detector and you get a cheap detector that is essentially an electronic paperweight.
Here's a decent video
Also... why does it have to be USB? Why don't you hardwire it?

The hardwired detectors cost about a grand. USB or cig lighter input is plug and play. Cheaper and just as effective. I think the Escort Max 360 and Max 2 are the top of the line detectors, about $600. Is the Redline as good? Mine is the Passport 8500 x 50.
My car has USB connectivity. The cig lighter input I must plug and unplug it with each and after use otherwise it eats my car's battery. Even when my car is turned off, I see the detector is using the car's battery.

The Redline is undeniably the best on the market right now in terms of pure performance. It's got the best range you can get out of any detector, (at least in the under 1k range) even better than Valentine One. If you do a lot of highway driving, that's the one to get. Although it doesn't have GPS and false signal alert lockouts, which kind of sucks. You pretty much have to get Escort Live to get the best of both worlds with that one. Max 360 is also very good.
And the hardwire ones don't cost about a grand.. you can hardwire pretty much any detector, just have to get a kit for some if they don't come with a hardwire kit. My escort 9500ix didn't come with one.. I just got this
If you hook it up to an 'accessory' fuse, it will only use power when the car is turned on.
Also not to mention a MUCH cleaner install.. you don't have wires hanging all over the place.. don't even see the wire as I route it through the trim.

this may require pro-installation from a pro...for $150.
But wouldn't the detector still need to be slapped on to the windshield? Unlike those made specifically to be hard wired they can be next to the radio I'd assume?

My detector came with a suction cup holder so you can mount to the windshield...
I said screw that and got a blendmount... didn't pay that much for it though lol. Think I paid half that on black friday Makes for a much cleaner/stealthier install.
I guess if you're not comfortable with wiring and electronics you may need a pro to do it... but it's not exactly hard. Depending on your car... some plastic trim tools may be required to route the wire under all the trim panels Then it's just a matter of getting it to your fuse box and hooking it into an accessory fuse... not exactly rocket science. Mount.. run/hide the wire... plug it in.
Hard wire doesn't mean anything about where its mounted. Hard wire just means it's powered through the fuse panel... not plugged into the cig plug or USB. Ideally you want it mounted as high as possible.. which is why the windshield is ideal.

im using a 10+ year old valentine one. it has never let me down. i wouldnt choose a radar just because it has USB power, you can easily wire in a usb port to your car in a few minutes with basic stuff from an auto parts store. or you could just get an auto electrician to install one for you.

that's expensive for a mount! so it is mounted onto the rearview mirror?
Anyway, I read the reviews of the Redline and I think it is Escort's best. It may be $100 less than their "powerful" ever Max 360 or $50 less than the second line down Max 2 but for the money I think I may go for the Redline.

im using the cig input yes. but i don't mind too much. you can get hard wire kits for them cheap so i could just wire it in and even install a switch in the circuit. have most of the wiring under the dash. And you could even run the cable up the pillar and under the headlining, so the plug comes out near the rear-view mirror for a tidy install. but i havent bothered. my POS corolla doesnt even have a stereo
