Any psychonaut cyclists out there?

I really enjoy riding. I do anywhere from 150-300 miles a month on average and have done RAGBRAI 3 out of the last 4 years and I'm planning to do it again in a few weeks.
I'm in the early stages of planning a ride next year in Peru. Hit up Macchu Picchu on day 1, then ride and camp for the next 3 days, through the Andes, and finishing in the lake town of Puno.
Somewhere along the ride I will DEFINITELY be dosing some shrooms. I'm not sure I can think of a better setting than the middle-of-nowhere-Peru up in the Andes.
Anybody out there ever ridden through Peru? And has anyone ever done a touring style ride and mix in a psych trip somewhere along the way?

I used to do a lot of cycling while on acid, which I wouldn't necessarily do anymore even though it was great. Definitely good fun, though, and obviously you can just stop and do trips. I never did long distance stuff anywhere more interesting than the UK, tragically.
The main things for touring are just knowing enough about bike maintenance that you're not going to get stranded somewhere and either being very good at reading maps or have some GPS thing going, cause you sure as fuck don't want to be lost in the middle of Peru.
Get yourself knowledgeable on bike maintenance, practice replacing all the parts that could potentially fuck up on you, and just make sure you know where you're going. Not sure how politically volatile Peru is right now, but there are definitely mountain roads that you can very easily slip off and die, so be careful if you do this.

Yeah man I really have fun riding while tripping too, but I'm no longer in an environment for that, sadly. Some of my fondest trips during my college years took place on a bicycle.
I've got a lot to learn about bike maintenance but I have not overlooked this important part of my trip next year. My local bike shop offers classes and I plan to take this very seriously before my departure.
The route I'm looking at in Peru is mostly located within a valley and is a paved road from start to finish. Granted, that could get a little boring so I do plan to venture off to more rugged terrain from time to time while hoping to not fall off one of those crazy Peruvian mountain roads

Regarding the navigation, I'm pretty fucking terrible at it and can get lost very quickly. I'm going to study my route carefully and the good news is that I can take pretty much the same highway from Cusco to Puno so as long as I don't steer too far off that road I should be in pretty good shape. Also there's quite a few rivers that run on both sides of the highway so i could always use those to stay on the right track

Are you taking a mountain bike or a hybrid, then? Sounds like a road bike couldn't handle the stuff you're trying to do. I think you can buy solar powered GPS things if you're really shitty with directions. Could be fun not knowing exactly where you are and following rivers, I guess.
Take the courses if they're affordable and good, but a lot of places over charge like fuck and teach you really slowly, so you could be better off with a book and a lot of experimentation on your own bike.

Better to just take a solar powered charged with USB port. Charge your phone. And get a gps that has a charger with a usb end.

I just got a bike a few weeks ago and started making bike trips on the weekend. It's fucking great. I rode 80 miles without batting an eye.
I've been wondering would it be fucked up to do a race for the cure on acid? I feel like that would be fucking awesome. 12 straight hours of melting and raising money for those in need.
I would never use meth, but i thought how hilariously awesome would it be if someone did a R4c and tweaked and rode for like 2 days straight.
