Older friend is out of touch with modern reality

Well my friend who is 50 just got out of prison after 10 years and he seems to be out of touch with current knowledge. He doesn't check reviews on things he buys. He never goes to community forums to express his ideas or thoughts. He simply just thinks what he thinks and that's it... the dude likes justin bieber, madonna, etc. Likes to listen to Rihanna and shit when he's on ecstasy. Smart as in focused on shit but he's just... eh. edit: What I mean by "modern" reality is like, the stuff that's trending now... the reality of today, I guess. He doesn't understand the deeper meanings behind things. A girl once shared a video of a guy with a speech impediment. Friend thought she was making fun of him but she was just sharing his story of overcoming something difficult.
How do you teach someone how to not be like that?

He is being smart about having priorities. The only things that are important are the things that are important to you! He isn't missing much in the "modern reality". Justin Brieber slipped on stage recently, some celebrities were having affairs, another person got shot,... not much to really care about.

No need to change him, no need to teach him anything, these things will all flow into him by themselves if he so desires it. Let him be how he is.

Absolutely. It is not our place to change, or try to change, anyone but ourselves.

Something can happen to the body, but it will either heal or it won't. What's the big deal? Let life knock you to bits. Let life take you apart. Let life destroy you. It will only destroy what you are not. --Jac O'keeffe

For people that are incarcerated for long periods of time, the modern world can be a bit overwhelming, often times people go to prison and their lives stand still, caught in the time they went in, it can take a while for someone who has been locked up that long, to readjust to the modern world.
I think older people are like this too though, my mom is 60, she acts like the only things you can buy are the things you can find at stores, I have told her over and over again to get online and research what she wants to buy, and that I would gladly help her do so. She acts like if she can't find a book she wants some place, then she can't buy it, even though you can buy EVERYTHING online. Her husband died in 2011 and he kept her up with the modern stuff, but since he's dead I try to help her as best I can, my bro does too.
I always liked the saying "you're only as old as you feel/act" because I can see some truth to this, it seems like once people say they're a certain age, all their actions start going that way, and they age faster. But if you keep up with the modern world, I believe it keeps you on your toes, you keep learning new things, and by learning new things you're keeping your brain fresh.

Fenn that is good advice but I believe that is your world. If we truly become part of the modern culture, we are clueless.
Sure there are many like you, but they too are in their own world (like we're all supposed to be).
