ok so, one thing that puts me off about agar is how much agar i need to prepare each time, the other, cost and the difficulty in finding good 90mm dish
But i just got to thinking, what actually are the pros vs cons for, larger or smaller dishes, by whichever extreme is pactical for mycology, ill asume 50mm vs 120mm but i consider 90mm to be large at the moment. Ignoring the lack of available mycelium for diversity when cloning good myc, or available mass for A2G.

if you are worried about cost, you can forgo petris all together, and make Pasty Plates
And as fo size, i make them in the regular glad minis used in the tek, and then also in these:

Got them at the dollar store. the smaller white-lidded one works fine, and is at least half the size of glad minis. I am honestly now very certain about any pros/cons to smaller vs larger plates. I guess if you are wanting to let your culture grow out more, then go with larger plates.
What ive been doing is, If i know im going to immediately be taking transfers from a plate, i will inoc/transfer to one of those smaller plates, since it doesnt need to grow out larger than dime-sized. but then, when im going to be trying to use the plate from inocing grain or whatever, then i will transfer to a larger plate, so it can grow out more, giving more to use.
Also, you dont have to prepare the entire container/bag of agar at the same time. you can half/quarter the recipe or whatever fraction you need to fill the certain amount of plates that you are wanting.

I use 90mm because that's what's avalible. I could do pretty much everything I can with 90mm plates with 50mm plates. Ideally I would use 3 or 4 section compartmentalised 90mm plates but I have never been able to find them at a reasonable price.
