Is this little sprout a cactus?

Hey guys,
Awhile ago I recieved some free cactus seeds with an order of syrian rue. I have absolutly no experience growing cactus, however the other day I remembered I had them and decided to plant a few for the hell of it. I checked the pot today and found this:

Is this a cactus? There is a piece of paper in with the seeds that says "trichocereus peruvian x bridgesii", does anyone know of this species and its active alkaloids, if any?

I can see an immature dicotyledonous seedling. Too small yet by far to see areoles or spines, but there is no reason to think it is any other than what the label says. Good luck with them.

The cactus that it's meant to be is Peruvian torch. A close relative to San Pedro cactus and has the amazing active alkaloid of mescaline!
Awesome cactus too, very spikey generally and a little bit slower grower than San pedros (however a little stronger I'm led to believe)

Thanks guys
I have around 50 seeds left. I'm thinking of doing some research before planting more and really putting some effort into it. Can anybody point me towards some good reading material? Otherwise i'm just going to use good ol' google.

This was a massive help to me when I started growing my San Pedro. To my knowledge they have all the same growth parameters as your torch. Hope it helps

About a month or so after making this thread I gave up, put the pot down the back of the yard and forgot all about it. Today I was doing some gardening when I came across it and was shocked to see two little cacti growing!!

It has been almost 2 years since I first planted the seeds, are they supposed to take this long to grow? Haha

Not usually that long. Usually triple that size, plus some. I've got a few that have lived a life like yours. About the same age and size.

O wow that's pretty cool. Did you end up planting the other seeds. So you could compare pampered growth with neglected growth?

I gave a bunch of my first seedlings away to see how well they would do compared to the ones i pampered
The difference was like grafted vs own roots

So roughly just over 3 years since sprouting from seed, this little guy is still soldering on!

Now we have more to visually work with, can anyone confirm what it is exactly? And any ideas as to the seemingly slooowwwww growth rate?

IDK about the growth rate but how well draining is that soil? The more mature it gets the less it will be liking if it's not a lot more pebble-y and sandy well draining loose "soil" / substrate. Looks like it may be fine but i cant really look underground.
I can believe thats a peruvian torch yea
nice going dude

Almost 4 years later, She's still putting along. How long should I wait until I can think about harvesting, or at least 'sampling'?

Let it grow till it's three times that size, then you can take a small tipcutting. I wouldn't cut a plant this small.
12 inches of fat cactus is one medium dose, if the plant is on the more potent side of the spectrum. 2 to 4 inches from the tip is not enough to sample a cactus.
Also, it looks like a T.peruvianus. But it shows some cuzcoensis traits (cuzcoensis is a subvariety of peruvianus, with very little mescaline, if any at all). There are a lot of hybrids around, too, so IDing cacti is like gambling, and the characteristics get blurred all the time. The heavy spination and the long centerspines noticably swollen at their base, are signs for cuzcoensis.

How is the soil say 4" down and also 12" down?
