First time growing (spawn bag)

Community,
This was my first attempt in Growing and I went the route of using a spawn bag. I purchased from a certain site and followed instructions are stated. It's been almost two months and the colonization of my bags has not finished. They were about 75 percent colonized but seems to have stalled but I just noticed that some pins have formed. I don't know what I did wrong. I would appreciate any advice and input. Not sure what I should do next. I apologize if previous post but I have fell into a rabbit hole of information. Thanks

The reason it stalled could be because the bag got contaminated, it does not have the right moisture content, or a variety of other reasons. For your next grow, I would suggest doing everything yourself. It isn't too difficult, will save you money and you may have not done anything wrong with the spawn bag it may have arrived come messed up from the vendor. Also I would upload some pics of the spawn bag so it will be easier to determine what went wrong.

Did you ever shake or knead the bag? Always shake grains at 20-30% and again at spawning. That's most likely why it stalled, but you didn't mention it.. So there could be other reasons as well.

Thank for the reply I appreciate it. I will do it myself in the future. Do you personally recommended through bags or jars?

I guess I didn't do it enough. I couldn't really find the right procedure or detailed enough. I was afraid to have damage the mycelium work as this website stated could happen

There's no procedure really. If your spawn is in a jar shake it up until it's broken up as small as you can get it. Bags are even easier, just mash them down with your hand and knead it like dough to break up all the clumps. Basically what you are looking for is for the already colonized grains to come in contact and spread equally through out the uncolonized grains. This speeds up colonization time, prevents dryout, and distributes the mycelium evenly.
Also it's a rule of thumb to shake your grains before inoculation as well. So the procedure should be shake once before inoculation, once at 20-30% colonization, once at spawn time. 123.
I prefer bags for spawn, jars for agar transfers and g2g, n such. Everyone has there own use for both.

Awesome. Thanks for the input. Do you make you own spawn bags or buy pre sterilized ?

bags are NOT easier than jars man, pre-sterilized bags are known to fail.

He's going to do it himself next time. Presterilzed stuff is a no no regardless unless you do it yourself. Prep, shelf life, shipping, and all that is a disaster waiting to happen.
I like bags though for spawn runs with cultures that I'm going to transfer and clone anyways. Huge space saver for sure!

I somehow doubt OP has a FH, bags in a SAB is a joke IMO. and more mass takes longer to sterilize, a noob with a bag full of poorly sterilized grains (and probably gonna use a spore syringe not g2g) is a disaster waiting to happen.
