Sweet bro, and lesson learned the hard way right, at least you learned something and wont make the same mistake again.

Not sure what lesson I should learn from it though.
1.Don't buy so much... or
2.Don't buy organic. or...
3....Buy a weavil proof bin to store the grain in. :facepalm3: Not sure which of those three lessons I should learn from.
4.Weavils totally contaminate any grain you use to sprout for eating.
5.Mycelium will use weavils as food if you make spawn without noticing the infestation.
6. As mentioned earlier, the deuce (juice) is not compatible with growing mushrooms/life, at least, for me, it's a big :nonono:

Edit. Excuse my interruption. I hadn't realised that the discussion had become quite so technical.

Yeah bro, I don't drink anymore myself and never will again in my life.

You are by no mean an interruption deucedbi9, you are awesome!

Nothing wrong with buying in bulk when more economical!
Definitely buy organic!
I would say buy a weevil proof bin to store the grain in is the lesson learned.

And yeah, thank you fract, I already knew all that, but thank you for posting that information up, could very well clear the air to those who haven't a clue.

So this little dude just popped up yesterday on a dislodged chunk of pure woodchip from the same pile as the originals . I brought the chunk home and gave it a soak and it more than doubled in size overnight.

P. cubensis again for sure.

Nice!

In your first post you said it was 95% camphor laurel. And this is Cinnamomum camphora i presume?
You should try transfering the mycelium to other kinds of wood chips to see if it has a wide or narrow taste for the wood.
Will it fruit from card board for example?

Yes knarkkorven it is predominantly Cinnamomum camphora.

After it finishes fruiting I will try to spawn it to cardboard again.

Ok guys the whole strain thing is something i want to spread to the mushroom community also but i have one friend who i let know where my spot is. Now i think i have some special genes here no dobt because its crazy the wsy these things are growing on wood. I talking monster caps. Ill post some below. Anyway the day i showed him my spot and my record breaker i found there that was 7 and a half inches across and weighs 330 grams fresh i told him from day one i want to have my own strain since this is my find and its something special and he showed no interest in the idea.  I feel i have the right to name it at least. I have made arrangements to clone a specimen to agar next week. So anyways i see a post last night where he is asking random people who wants to isolate the strain from my spot i showed him after telling him my plan from day one.he was giving me credit but he already named it and is just giving it away. Im like wtf your not naming shit you didn't find it. Im i wrong for feeling this way. I feel like he is stealing from me

These are prime examples of why i think i have something special here. I just want to be able to name the strain, thats all.

If they are cubes that one in the middle is going to be a huge MF!!! The older pic looks more like cubes, I would go with cubes for sure if you get blue bruising. Post pics of them maturing!

Looks like outdoor cubes, with the extra fresh air they can get huge

Again I will reiterate that unless you did something in terms of crossing established lineages that already had ambiguous names or similar, it's beneficial to the history of the lineage to have a reference to location in the name.

This is just an opinion of course and it might not even matter in the long run. I mean it might never be stabilized, or even stabilized well, leaving it as another run of the mill cube in a sea of them. Loads of potential in wild genetics but careful deliberate work needs to be done to see anything worthwhile.

An example would be lizard king. Supposedly was found growing on wood near a stable. Sure the name is catchy but it doesn't tell us anything about it. Sure it may have been found on wood but the domestication of it was haphazard and it's no better at growing on wood now than any other cube.

:twocents:

I definitely planed on putting the location in the name somehow

What is dung? Rotted digested plant matter, it's definitely rare to find growing directly out of wood chips, but hey you have decaying matter. Awesome find! I will say they don't look as traditional as the ones I see in the States, that could just be a regional thing.

There is a reason most cubes don't do well on wood and it's got nothing to do with the fact that dung is "rotten" (more because they derive almost no benefit from lignin, despite being able to colonize it). In fact when we cultivate them in a controlled setting we treat them as primary decomposers as that yields better results.

Are you capable of stabilizing and domesticating your woodchip cubes yourself, robidoe?

If not, then I know Adden likes your woodchip cubes robidoe...
If your woodchip cube patch still produces, and you do not have the knowledge and skills to stabilize and domesticate them YOURSELF, then why not hook Adden up?

Adden is no doubt capable of stabilizing and domesticating them, and the both of you could decide on a name? Like Subsistence and I have done.

So let me get this straight, robidoe.
You showed your mate your woodchip cube patch, told him wassup and said you claim the genetics and naming rights, then your mate done stole your woodchip cube genetics?
And he is now asking other people to stabilize and domesticating them?

What a fucking bitch, I would be beyond pissed if I was you, if I was you I would be doing some serious fucking a snake up.
SOME EXTREMELY SERIOUS, FUCKING A SNAKE UP!!!!!!!!
