P.cubensis will fruit right through Winter in northern NSW. I am wondering if some kind of manure has been added to the wood chip pile. If not any cows grazing nearby? Might also find the decomposing wood in a pile that high would be heating up like a compost heap.
The flecks on the cap and general shape of the fruiting bodies along with what's going to be an obvious ring on the stem sure looks cubensis to me. Even the second photo shows bluing mycelium where the fruit bodies show no blue. Disclaimer for me is I talk a lot and know less so it will be interesting to see what unfolds.

On rare occasion, I have also seen P. cubensis fruiting in winter up here before, but only on cow manure. I am 99.9% sure that there was never any manure added to this pile, nor have any cows or horses had access to it.
I imagine there would be a decent amount of bird droppings on the pile from the trees above, but haven't heard of cubensis growing from that before. The pile is rapidly decomposing and is absolutely full of mycelium (probably from many species).
I should mention too that I harvested about 6 plump, young (and delicious!) Stropharia Rugosoannulata from the bottom edge of the same pile about two weeks ago. I'm not sure what, if any, effect this species might have on the occurrence of P. cubensis.
I noticed the blue mycelium in that pic too. I am taking that as a positive sign...
Hopefully tomorrow it will all become clear

Sure look like cubes to me. I've found them fruiting in fairy rings right through Winter. Often there is very little sign of cow manure evident. However that's been in cow paddocks. If no cows are present or in adjacent paddocks its interesting how the spores got there in the first place to colonise the 6 month old wood chip pile.
I don't know what relation King of the Stropharia has to P.cubensis regarding fruiting. Except they shared the same genus name many years ago. Look forward to hearing what you find out about those primo looking specimens. I'll play the devils advocate here and ask could someone have inoculated the woodchip pile with P.cubensis spores? Just kidding around.

I would LOVE to see a cubensis fairy ring!
I am absolutely certain that the pile wasn't intentionally inoculated because I know the land holders well and lets just say that mushroom cultivation isn't their thing.
Given that the closest cow paddocks are less than 1km away, I think it is totally conceivable that the spores just blew in.

Hang on I've found S.rugosoannulata look alikes fruiting all over horse manure. Their veil is different to a cube. Its like in little sections and thicker. When they open you'll know for sure I guess because P.cubensis has a thin veil in cross section and it isn't in segments.
I agree about the spores travelling. Not only that, car tyres are a good medium to transport them. A farmer just has to drive over some cow dung and drive in there where the pile is and there you go. I've seen this happen with other Psilocybe species.

As desperately as I wanted to, I just didn't have the time to make it to the property today to take more pics, but I am definitely going there in the morning. The suspense is killing me!

Over the past week the temps have been around 10 degrees celsius minimum and 21 degrees max. There was a big rainfall the weekend before last which triggered their fruiting but it has been fairly dry since. I don't know specific RH.
I am hoping that they are still plump and juicy when I go to see them in the morning...
