First timer, got a few questions about whats growing in my FC (pics attached)

So, I got 24 BRF cakes in the FC for a little over 2 weeks now. I got a couple promising cakes, but a lot of questions and doubt surrounding most of them. FC stays +/-71°F, 99%RH, 12h of light per day.
I've been searching the forums looking for answers with nothing conclusive, so I thought I'd just show the community what I've got here.
 Overhead shot of the FC
Funky fresh semi-mutant looking mushy, it started its growth in the bottom of the cake against the jar kid which is probably why it's deformed. If someone knows something I don't, please say so.

No idea what's going on here, some of them have heads forming like pins, but the stipes are all cracked looking and strange.. Thoughts?? Are these aborts?
Here's my nicest and strongest looking cluster.
So, any thoughts you might have on what's up here would be so great. Why do y'all think my other cakes are taking so long to get started? Thanks in advance! Love yall!

What type are you growing? Genetics play a big role in mutants and deformities. That's why we clone and do agar transfers.

Almost looks like *Lencacillium fungicola. But based on how the other fruits that shit looks dry as hell. How often do you mist? If its not dry as hell then it definitely is Lencacillium.
Your FC is a poor design. A properly constructed SGFC provides too much FAE for Lencacillium to get a foothold.
*Used to be verticillium fungicola. Has been reclassified.

After your cakes were 100% colonized, did you give them time to consolidate? That could explain why it's taken them nearly 2 weeks to start fruiting.
And like CosmoKramer said sub strain and genetics are a huge factor especially when using a multi-spore solution.
Other than that as long as you keep them hydrated by lightly misting, give them plenty of fresh air exchange by fanning and 12 hours of daytime light in the 6500K spectrum, all you need now is sweet sweet patience.

I agree your pins shouldn't be cracking like that with proper mist/fan routine in sgfc's. It could be that it's bacteria related like pasty mentioned but they are dry.

Noted on the too dry, I've been misting 2 times a day due to my work schedule but I'll endeavor to pick that up to 4 or so. I didn't think its be so detrimental so Dr my RH is at a stable 99%. How often can/should I mist them?
The strain is Golden Teachers, for those that were asking. I let them consolidate for 1 week prior to birthing, maybe 5 jars only had 5 days considation.
My FC design is a little makeshift, I decided against a proper SGFC because I read on here that they would not work inside a closet. Whether or not that's right or wrong idk, but that was my reasoning at the time.

You would have been better off to find out what would work inside a closet rather than wing it. Whatever is making you think that chamber is at 99% RH is lying to you. 99% RH is not desired anyways, and if you did have 99% RH, your shit would look saturated and soggy. I can see with my eyes that it's dry. Is there even holes in the bottom? The perlite can't work without holes in the bottom.
FYI a good range for humidity in a chamber is 65% - 90% humidity. Best if it fluctuates.

so, the standing water dropplets on the sides and lid of the chamber at all times Don't confirm a very high humidity?

condensation occurs only when you have different temps and humidity between the outside and inside. That won't reflect the real humidity level of your cakes or whatever it is..

It is my understanding that the evaporation of the water droplets usually from lightly misting should give you the proper RH, that's considering having holes on all 6 sides of your FC.
I had some dry and I mean f'ng dry ass cakes once and injected them via syringe with just a couple cc's of spring water and believe it or not it did wonders.

I might have to try that on a couple cakes that aint doing shit and see what happens lol. So, what, 2 CC filtered water straight through the top into the middle of the cake?

Condensation and humidity are two different things. You can have 60% humidity and still have condensation built on the sides of the bin if there is a heat difference inside and out your chamber. Honestly I don't mean to be a sgfc stickler but it works. Plain and simple. Closet or not you'll still be getting more FAE than this thing is getting atm. Mist your cakes pins and all and when your cakes start to dry out mist again. As long as your misting enough and you've rolled your cakes don't worry yourself over the humidity of your fc
Edit: there's a hair in your fc on one of your cakes

If the cakes are dry you would be better off setting them in saucers or lids that hold water and bottom watering the cakes.
Injecting cakes is just asking for problems.
Misting, by itself, will not give you the proper RH you need. It also needs to fluctuate vs. remaining at a constant level. A properly built SGFC and wet/damp perlite, and properly hydrated cakes is what creates the humidity...
I'd like to know where some people come up with some of this info & misinfo that gets posted all the time...

Bottom watering 24 cakes in that fashion would be practically impossible in the space I have available.
So would a series a holes along the side, as close to the bottom of the perlite as possible, help me? I don't have the finances at the time to build a stand to make use of holes on the bottom, and I also don't want to damage my carpet.

Holes on all six sides man. Prop up the sgfc on 4 of the jars you used for your cakes. The perlite holds the moisture quite well. I haven't experienced any drips from the bottom of my fc but if you wanna be safe put a layer of cling film on the floor under your fc or something
Edit: my sgfc setup Basically inside a closet as well. Still getting plenty of FAE

Pay no mind to the heat pad. Its not plugged in and is not reccomended.. before anyone gives me shit about it

lol... oh shit man I just noticed...
The answer to your question is NO.
You need a built to spec SGFC for fruiting cakes. At least if you want the proper environment and good results.
I am not surprised you are having troubles fruiting with that sealed box...
SGFC = A clear tote with 1/4" holes in a grid pattern (2 inches apart)on ALL 6 SIDES of chamber, about 5 inches of wet/damp perlite, elevate the FC with jars, soup cans, whatever you can find to get it up so air can flow up through the damp perlite....
Lighting = 6500K CFL 12 hours on, 12 hours off.
It also a good idea to have about a foot of open space all the way around the chamber to allow for unimpeded air flow.
If you do these very simple things the difference in your success will be astronomical... a properly built SGFC is tried and true...plain and simple.
Not much room for debate as far as SGFC goes...

Alright this sounds like it's going to be a royal pain.. I don't really have anywhere to put my cakes while I rebuild my fruiting chamber and super tight on space and finances. I'll be buying another tote and more perlite on Friday I guess... I'm not wild about the prospect of stacking 2 SGFC in my closet but its better than losing my crop lol.
Just out of curiousity, how was the FC done before the SGFC became a thing? I gotta do SOMETHING until Friday when I can fix my shit..

Shouldn't be a pain at all.
Actually it is easy as hell....lol.
You are going to have to put forth at least a minimal amount of time and effort into growing shrooms...
You can also just re-use the tote you have them in now...
Just take the cakes & perlite out and drill your 1/4" holes.
It won't hurt them to take them out for that short of time.
Just re-wet the perlite and give the cakes a good misting and fan when you put them back in the FC...
One of the ways it used to be done is fruiting invitro (right in the same jars)...
There have been many different attempts to design FC's that work well.
It just happens to be that the SGFC is the best way to fruit cakes.
A martha, or small portable greenhouse is another way people fruit cakes, trays, and other types of bulk grows.

Someone commented that leaving some space along the perimeter would also help my FAE, so I'm just trying to do all I can to recover these cakes by splitting them between 2 chambers, 12 cakes each. I'm in borderline panic mode I don't wanna lose my shit lol.
So, holes in a 2x2 grid ALLLLLLL OVERRRR right? Top bottom and all 4 sides tippy top to the very bottom? I'm having a surprisingly hard time finding a picture of the holes in a SGFC lol.

People used PMP, pop bottles, rich man terrarium, and other shitty performance chambers. Many people would spawn their cakes to bulk to take advantage of bulks flexibility. Chambers meant just for cakes pretty much were all shit until the SGFC came about.

What is it that makes bulk more "flexible" than cakes?

I injected water into my cakes after I saw some people hydrating their cakes with straws and having success. I experimented with it on cakes that were for the most part past the point of saving with misting,, and it worked for me.
They pinned and I was able to pull a few flushes out of what could have been just wasted cakes anyways.

Basic principals of the shotgun fruiting chamber ^^^Everything you need to know^^^ click it and follow the instructions its basically going to tell you to just take your current chamber get a 1/4 inch drill bit and drill holes every 2 inches in a grid pattern all over the whole thing lid and all
you can still keep all your cakes in that one when they say leave space along the perimeter they mean outside the SGFC not the cakes on the inside

I'd really recommend bottom watering over injecting water any time it's possible.

So, holes in a 2x2 grid ALLLLLLL OVERRRR right? Top bottom and all 4 sides tippy top to the very bottom? I'm having a surprisingly hard time finding a picture of the holes in a SGFC lol.
Aren't there millions of pictures of sgfcs on here I know there's one on my thread that I made
That hole pattern on every surface including bottom and lid I just drilled the lid first then used the lid on each surface as a hole template dotted through the holes with a pen on the tote then drilled took less than 10 mins

Gotcha. Alright I'm going to tackle this tonight and hopefully make a save.
Now, what about those gross looking cracked fruits? They're a total lost cause right? Should i remove them?
Also, since my cakes are stalled and dry af, should I redunk/roll on the 19 cakes that have no growth?

lol... I know right. Tried to suggest that as well, but OP must not want our good advice...
It's a space constraint issue in my FC. Do you think I could make little boats with tin foil that would hold water to bottom water my cakes?

No worries its my first go and like I said do the lid first then no need to sit drawing up grids the lid generally will be as long as the sides and bottom and longer than each end so use that as a drill template for the rest of the box just pen through the lid holes on the box

If you're cakes are really that dry I don't think redunking would be an issue. Its up to you. I think I remember someone mentioning bottom watering? And sorry not quite sure what to say about your cracked fruits. They're prolly just dry. Lol how's that for an answer? Consider this post a bump. Hopefully someone with more xp can chime in

Lol whether or not I should eat them was gonna be my next question xD. I'm just hoping they recover. SGFC all set up and going, I made little tinfoil boats to set the cakes in so I can bottom water them.

Just wanted to send some good vibes broo, I think they will recover fine, cubes are very resilient to some pretty harsh conditions ime. I had cakes in a real messed up FC my first go because of some misinformation (and some lack of research I'll admit) but after a few days I realized something was up cakes were looking shitty but I fixed things right away when I found out, got a hygrometer and whatnot, and they did fine, got plenty of mushies off them. I'm pretty sure I got about 4 flushes off most if not all of them.
[Edit] Oh yea and one thing be sure you have the full 4-5 inches of perlite at the bottom of your SGFC. If you only have like 2 your humidity will be greatly reduced, at least it was in my experience.

Thanks for the vibes man, and looks like I'll be going to home depot Friday for more perlite anyway. I got about 2 in and I thought thatd be good if I kept up with it but I'm done taking shortcuts, I've learned my newbie lesson.

My exact sentiment! I do a fair amount of tech tinkering and wanted a more.... Organic hobby lol. And yea the end result is just cats tits for real
I'll post a new picture of my fruiting chamber when I get home from work, I have one cake that's looking a little suspect at the waterline of my little tinfoil boats, looks like a slime of some kind. I may try to cut it away from the rest of the cake or rinse it off or something but Idk yet.

Picture update, fruiting chamber *mostly* fixed now, getting more perlite Friday when I get paid and finishing the job.

So, after setting up the boats and all that jazz, I came back to mist and noticed that snot looking funk at the waterline. It wasn't there when I took the cakes out to rebuild the FC.

How do they look now? I would've recommended waiting to see if it clears up, put it in the correct fc with no water at the bottom. Or if nervous it may contam your other cakes put it aside in open air or something for a few hours, wont hurt it.
but yea, how's it looking now?

It's just waterlogged as hell and showing tabs. Your not supposed to bottom water until the pinset is in and growing. That's when the extra water is needed, otherwise it just sits there saturating the substrate. Waterlogging the sub will actually inhibit pinning.

Thanks for clearing things up Pasty, I had though it was probably something caused from leaving them in water, honestly doesn't look that bad to me just looks kinda wet and water logged like you said.
OP be sure when you use that saucer method, which you can use and it does help when needed, That you only do it for around 6-12 hours max, then take it out. Don't leave it in there the whole time. Only do it when you know your cake has little to no water.

also, like pasty said, only bottom water with a saucer after all or most pins have formed and are about an inch or two big.(thats what i do, at least) and i cut back on misting, when i do this.
also, if i notice that the cake isnt absorbing much of the water, i will take it out of there, and just not bottom water it for that flush.

These nuances to bottom watering would have been great when I set them up. 2 days ago. They've been getting botto. Watered this entire time lol. Now I gotta take them all out lol. Ugh. Thanks for the notes though, happy to hear it probably isn't a contamination.

right haha. still give them normal misting, though. mist when they get dry, and mist until tiny beads of moisture. then do it all again.
i might give it a day to dry, with very little, or possibly even zero misting. just for a day, though.

I used large icing buckets as fruiting chambers for my first grow. Every cake was in one by itself with toilet paper on the bottom and some plastic on the top.
I'm sure you have some kind of bucket around that you could wipe down and put your cakes in.

Lol. Yea I was about to say awwwww hell no. I didn't do all that to put my cakes in Homer Buckets with tp at the Bottom lol.
I poked some holes in my boats to let the water drain into the perlite, so now my cakes are just sitting on the foil. Mist, don't mist, too dry, too moist, lol what a roller coaster ride xD.
I may forgo tonight's mistings, it doesn't appear that the affected area is growing so that's a good sign. Will the metabolites clear up over time? Or am I stuck looking at Myco snot? Lol

Twist and lightly pull off from the base of the stipe. Aborts typically have a greyish or darker off color cap compared to other pins.

So that Myco snot actually is clearing up rather nicely, but goddamn I'm seeing borderline ZERO action on my cakes, and minimal growth in the couple that had already started.

The one that had the 3 larger fruits on it already now has a pincluster of about 150 little dots all around, which is exciting lol. I just wish at least ONE of the cakes that haven't started yet to just.... You know.. Fucking start? Lol

Ok, so literally in the 8 hours I was at work my only good fruiting cake (which looked fine before work) turned fuckkkkking BLACK. I just don't get it.. The pin cluster was showing great growth over the last couple days and then this..
Anyway, I wiped away my tears as I cleaned off the cake and put the fruits in my drying chamber.
Now this might be a stupid question, but Assuming I properly dry these bitches, can I still make a tea out of them? At this rate I'm looking at a complete and utter failure and I'd hate to get nothing out of my investment, but I also realllllly don't wanna die lol.

Are you sure? I didn't have any open caps yet, and it certainly looked hella unpleasant and slimy... It also had a bit of a smell.. But it wasn't ungodly pungent like the green crap. I really hope you're right about it being spores.

Post a pic then. We can't see what you are looking at without a pic. 90% of the time it's spores. You had some nearly mature fruits in a pic earlier. But maybe you won the 10% nasty lotto. So post a pic.

Are you that averse to posting a picture for confirmation for your own health? Tea will kill a lot of living organisms but it won't negate any of the toxins they've produced.

How will I know without seeing a pic? The description black and nasty is not encouraging. Do you eat rotten food at home? Either pics or I can't help you. It might be spores, some contam that's gross but harmless, or maybe something that could make you sick.

Okay I can't tell what's the issue with those, they still might just be spore blasted. But they look disgusting and are certainly rotting now. I wouldn't eat that myself.

Theyve been in the drying chamber for about a day now.
And No I don't make a habit of eating rotten food, but regular food doesn't make me trip lol. My hope was that I could kill anything that could hurt me when I boiled them into tea, but really want a second or third opinion before I start playing Russian roulette lol

If by drying chamber you mean desiccate chamber, you need to fan dry them for a few days first. Sealing them up in a desiccate chamber is going to exhaust the desiccate and the fruits will just rot. That's probably what's happening now.
I doubt those will even be worth a trip, the longer they stay wet the more actives they lose. Dehydrator FTW.

Yeah they're better off sitting on a table for 5 days drying naturally than inside a desiccant chamber straight from harvest. And definitely about dehydrators. Damn shame to do all the work to get mushrooms and then lose them to something preventable.

Sorry man. That hurts for sure. Consider it a lesson learned and at least it's not a total loss.

Yea I'm pretty heartbroken I'm not gonna lie. I've learned a lot, but I went into this with 30 cakes so I knew I'd come out with SOMETHING even if shit went tits up. Silly me lol.. I'm going to do a bulk run next time with something simple like coir/verm (i think that was your suggestion pastey, in an older thread of mine).
I'm pretty salty I dont even have a spore print to show for my efforts...

I'm tenetive to dry them in open air for 2 reason: that funky black muck I'm still not totally trusting, and my pets. We have a puppy that loves to climb and get into everything and I'd hate for her to get into it.
I am recharging the desiccant routinely, and there's a decent shitload of it in there lol. It very effectively dried some aborts earlier. I'll have to buy a bookshelf as part of my next attempt, to keepy my shit out of reach

This. It's impossible to fuck up with a dehydrator. Really easy to fuck up without one.

Damn dude Well at least now youve gained some valuable knowledge hopefully you took some prints and got some spores and you can do it better next time!!
Plus you get a decent trip out of it

Lol no way I could have printed this garbage. No unless I wanted to start my own pharmancy, all I could grow was penicillin lol.
I'll just be starting from scratch on a bulk run, I hear they're a little more forgiving in the moisture department-
