Can You Save Cococoir After Mixing it?

i bought the big bricks of cococoir and i only need enough for a single 64 quart tub, i usually can do 10 tubs with this amount of coir and i was curious if there was a way to store it after mixing the verm and water in.
i tried this once i kept it in the bags after pasteurizing and i used it a while later and got a bunch of contams.
please help would be appreciated.

Freeze it? I just chip off what I need from the block usually.
Doing a 66L right now, had a 1/3 block and man...without verm I am still going to have crazy sub depth. Tempted to scoop some out

i was told that i could take my left over coir/verm sub an put it in a freezer bag and stick it in the fridge, and use it up to a month later or something. coir is supposed t be pretty contam resistant stuff.

Damn, just finished fluffing it more and adding remaining supplements. I'm almost at 30L volume >< Time to pull out another tub I guess.

You're very welcome
Some folks recommend using a drill to make it easier with a handsaw or knife. I stab it on edge and kinda peel off sheets. Using a long blade like a lever. Carefully though :p

I take a big flat head screwdriver and wedge it into the layers, then bust it apart until I get enough for my sub ratio.

Let it dry out...wrap it up, freeze it and re-paateurize it on the next use.

To answer the question, yes, you can just leave it in the same bag or bucket you hydrated and heated it in in the first place, keep it closed, lasts 1-4 months depending on a few factors like brand, quality, etc.

when i prepped my coir, it smelled just kinda earthy, but now, a couple days later, after leaving in the pot(PC) i prepped it in, it additionally smells kinda minty. normal coir smell? not sure how to describe it besides minty haha. it isnt super minty or anything, but doesnt smell just earthy anymore. its been just a couple days since prepping.

nah, yeh, i wasnt meaning that you cant save it or anything, i was wondering if that smell is normal for coir? i know that is prolly impossible to answer since only i can smell it, haha. just strange since i just prepped it. hope the Gulps i made are ok.. not sure what might have happened.

I don't.. usually get a minty smell, so, I don't know, could be something living in it. That's why I said that.

I just dumped about 4 quarts of old coir...better in my garden than ruining a whole box of shroomies.
