No. The leaves don't match and datura has more upright growth.

There is actually a field by me, full of these trees, not plants,  but it looked so much like a datura to me.  The leaves were similar to the datura and it was full of pods.

The stems are upright, but I bended it downwards to shoot a better and clearer picture of it.

Dam am dissappointed, I thought I had actually found a field full of em.

Nonetheless, thanks to everybody

yup, it a tree, i have a couple about 60 feet tall in my back yard, beautiful trees but those pods are MURDER in the fall for bare feet.

and look in riparian habitat, areas where clearing meet forest or wooded areas, clearings of tall grass and shrubs, recently disturbed wooded areas, areas where forests or wooded areas meet rivers or creeks. and you almost NEVER find them by themselves, usually they are in groups of dozens and commonly hundreds because nothing eats their seeds and they are very hardy in cold

beautiful plants daturas, but i STRONGLY recommend cultivating them for beauty alone. You know the ring wraiths from Lord of the Rings? Fancy getting hipnotized and led into weird places and bizarre situations by them and then immmediately forced to gorget how you got where you were and maybe even forget where you are or who you are along the way? lolololo

affects some people pleasantly though, but thats a hug eminority, if you wanna know what its like taking 400-500 mg of benedryl is VERY similar for whatever reason, probably because both strongly affect acetcolene uptake. although i strongly reccomend not doing that for similar reasons, no wraiths, but you wont have any coherance of thought or comprehension of whats going on around you, that and datura in strong doses are pretty much pure demented delerium

I agree.

I have a decent amount of experience with dosing datura/brugmansia, and don't recommend either of them for recreational use.  When I was younger I was taught how to make tea from brugmansia flowers, my buddy and I nicknamed the concoction "the juice" and had several decent experiences on it.  The cotton mouth from consuming it was out of this world, probably worst cotton mouth I have ever experienced in my life, and the visuals weren't the type one gets from the popular psychs, but had me seeing stuff that wasn't there, for instance I saw a cat run by me numerous times even though there was no cats around the area.  My buddy was trying to put a belt on, and said the belt appeared to be way to long to fit around him.

When I think back on it, we were actually lucky that nobody got seriously hurt.  One guy drank some of it, and was laying down, got up and started to pee all over the place, then started to spin around and puke, after that I only touched the stuff one more time, and that was a small batch mixed with mushroom tea, which was amazing to say the least because I was camping with a girl and out in the middle of nowhere.

I love to grow them though, got some meteloides growing this year.  I really like the feeling of growing something which has the potential to alter your mind, just a good feeling about that, like the plant gives off a kind of interesting energy, sinister yet beautiful.  I really want to grow some Belladonna sometime, they're really cool looking.

But I recommend safety when growing most of the Solanaceae.

One specific strange encounter with it i smoked some strong cannabis during the peak of a datura "trip", tea made form about 6 grams of seeds

i was then guided into the woods by wring wraiths, straight up LotR style, fucking cloaked demon reaper things, didnt find them scarry for whatever reason, were like the sirens from Homer's Illiad and Odyssey, they strangely and hypnotically frew me in, they then vanished and left me completely clueless how i got there, didnt find my way back home until it got daylight. Black shadows creeping around me, hands would grab my shoulder when id turn no one would be there, i was smoking ciggarettes that didnt exist when i didnt even smoke ciggs. Voices were trying to convince me id never make it out of that experience, i would be trapped in THEIR forest forever, and i kept unsuccesfully trying to tell my buddy Carl who was with me at the time what was going on.

I have never had a friend called Carl, and no one was with me at any point that night other than my own mind.

was fucking terrifying, and yea that cottonmouth is unreal, but would you believe that intoxicating yourself on Benedryl/Diphenhydramine or Dramamine/Dimehydrinate is even worse for the cottons? because it is, also NOT reccomended, both are a VERY similar intoxication to datura

The only people i have ever heard of using Daturas shamanistically succefully are Napalese and Tibetan shaman, and they are fairly well known out there for being bat-shit crazy and completely delirious for large chunks of time. are quite the stark contrast to the Buddhist Monks and mystics oh so common out there...not my cup of tea.

Psychedelics are NOT hallucinogens...

Hallucinogens are NOT psychedelics...

i CANNOT stress this enough. The two words are NOT interchangeable and never will be, i promise you. if you cant even be aware of your own place in the scenario your being presented with, i cannot fathom how it could be structured or used for anything positive, even though i have heard stories of this, its always "well i know a guy who" or "well this one dude i knew" or "years ago etc etc etc"... or those few erowid reports that go against the grain of the 99% of horribly negative experiences.

if you claim yourself to have had positive experiences, i am not calling you a liar, i just would have liked to have been there watching you during it to form my own opinion of it having experienced it many times myself

still waiting to see someone on this witch's weed that doesnt appear to be completely and utterly delirious to the world around him as well as the experience he is having, myself included

Beautiful Plants and will remain admired and respected by me, but please dont eat them, i feel like they dont like that....

It's probably a sweet gum tree.

That is without a doubt, not datura.

I'm with Jah and Burke, it's either some kind of ricinus/castor plant or sweet gum tree.

Here's another photo of castor for comparison.

They are very nice looking plants. Big wide fan leaves and all.

Wow, it's crazy how much the castor bean plant looks like a sweet gum tree, at least in the leaves and seed pods.  Sweet gum is a big ass tree though, so what OP has is probably castor bean.

They really do have very subtle differences.

I had to google sweet gum trees, but immediately edited that post to include it as a possibility.
