Consistant Fanning on mono's
    #23384108 - 06/26/16 01:05 PM (7 years, 7 months ago)

So I'm not new to mono-tub  bulk grows but,  I'm currently working more than I used to so I'm away from my babies more often.  So I fan as much as I can but was wondering if any of you on here have any tubs with a fan setup or anything like that.  Any great advice you can give would be AWESOME!
For the record the strains I'm currently cultivating are:
Penis Envy(no case) discussed in another recent thread.
Treasure Coast.
Escondido(currently on 2nd flush)
PF classic.
A+ Albino.

Why are you fanning a mono?

Run a small fan in the room directed away from the tubs to just move a little air or if your room has a ceiling fan just turn it on low.

If it's too much fae then tighten your holes or turn the fan down

Was always told to do so but yeah no ceiling fan.  just a box fan,  was thinking about a 3x3 setup on my wall and putting the box fan in the middle so its enclosed between the 6 total.

You really don't need much air. Mono's create their own currents by temp differential and humid vs non humid air.

Not to the extent of a sgfc but if you need to manually fan your tubs you made them too wet or your poly is too tight. If you find you need to mist well then the opposite

So I found out my poly-fil was unevenly stuffed,  had to work last night so that's why the posts stopped.  But I'm about to rework them though...
Thanks again,  will post pics when its back up official like!

If you are having to fan your monos more than one or two times a day then something is wrong. Even then I would only say it's needed if you live in a really humid area with 70+ RH. Loosen that poly up for sure. Just as maddchef said a little air movement is needed around the area, but not much.

A mono is supposed to be set and forget. Most don't fan monos, only mist occasionally or more depending on the flush. Instead of having to fan your monos, why not just loosen the poly instead?  A well dialed mono doesn't need to be fanned, regardless of RH. Where I live, we get constant 90%+ humidity in summer, I still don't fan my monos. If anything, I would rather remove the poly from the top holes than having to fan.

Yeah all I do is open them once a day to mist (after the 1st or 2nd flush is over). When I used a fan it dried everything out really bad. For my climate and grow room, stuffing the bottom 4 as tight as humanly possible and very loose on the top was the last thing I did to dial in my tub.

I prefer to stuff all my holes with same density poly. I like to give my shrooms a little extra FAE as well, makes for great pinsets if you can keep up with the misting.

Do you stuff medium all around?

Yeah, works pretty good for me and I find it easier than tight&loose.

Cool! I've got 2 monos that are almost ready. I've read the medium poly and fruit at spawn tek posts. Seems to be easier with good results. I just haven't tried it yet, so I'll give a whirl this time.

I used to run a fan in the room. Now I realize I was just wasting power. Dial er in and you don't need to do shit, including fans/fanning.

I mostly switched because I found it hard to dial them in perfectly in one try when I was stuffing tight&loose. If you are used to your method, you have no reason to switch really. It is basically the same, you could even fruit right after spawning with tight&loose poly, if that is what you were after.

Damn fellas thanks for all the great info.  Always good to get advice from others.  When I started years ago a buddy took me through most of the ins & outs of mono-tubing.  But I see a lot of his advice was either wrong or out dated.  But I've still achieved some pretty fantastic flushes but always looking to go better!
Keep the tips coming.... If there's anymore out there.

im with most of the guys above. i personally like to stuff the bottom holes extra tight, and the top holes light/medium. seems to yield the best results for me. i tried medium all around in the beginning. still worked, just not AS well i thought. but i was less experienced as well.

as for a fan. i either place one in the room on the opposite side facing sort perpendicular to the tubs so as not to be directly at them. or diagonally from right next to them(like frank seems to do in some of his photos). both have worked just fine for me. a nice cycle of air throughout the room has to help with FAE though imo. (my fan was set to a timer 15min on 1hr45min off.)

Now that I think about the only times I've ever had to manually fan my monos is when I over misted a bit. It happens but other than that as long as you have decent FAE and some circulation in the area. Like supalemonhaze  said, should be a set and forget method. Everything can be adjusted or dialed in with poly, tub placement, and occasional misting.

"Update"  So I re stuffed my poly-fil and things picked up significantly!  Cheers to you all for helping a member out.  Don't know why I slacked on the poly-fil stuffing but eh? Sometimes shit happens but glad I didn't ruin my crop.
Here's some pics of one of my setups:

:awethumb:
Just keep eye for evaporation rings around the poly. Should start seeing them increase in size rather fast if you have it dialed in correctly. If not just loosen them a bit more.
