I been using a sgfc that has been sitting around I have enough grain for 40 quarts in there but you can put way more than that I just put the ttub in the bath tub and shake it every twenty thirty minutes to make sure no water is pooling in the corners

i prefer spending an extra 3$ on nice metal strainers, but i still have a screen exactly like that, i use from time to time :p (i also use the screen to dry extra mushies that wont fit into my dehydrator. i run 2 fans over it until they can be transferred into the dehydro. doesnt seem to lose any extra potency this way, at least nothing noticeable.)
would you use the screen over the strainer? the only benefit i see is that the seeds get more surface space for air and dry more quickly. whereas in the strainer i have to flip it around and move the seeds every 20 minutes or so to get a nice dry outer layer.

I leave my grains a little bit dry and load them wet instead of spreading them apart and drying. Grain prep takes no longer than 40minutes ever since I started doing it this way. From dry grains to hydrated in 30minutes, strain for a couple of minutes until they stop dripping and just fill the jars and wrap in foil.
I can't go back to waiting for grains to dry honestly.

Yeah, oats are a bitch to dry completely. I kept trying to get them dry, even with some tedious methods and I never really liked any of them. But once I tried to load them wet I just fell in love with it.
Honestly, you could hydrate oats fully and load them wet and you will still probably get by just fine. I just leave them a tad bit dry as a pre-caution.

Ya same here man I had them drying in towels in a strainer for a whole day still damp I haven't had any problems I pretty much do like you now I just wait till the water isn't dripping and the steam stops and load my jars up ... I even left them in water cause it slipped my mind so loaded up those sticky clumpy bastards and too be honest they colonized alot quicker but it was probably dumb luck I wouldn't do it again

I started with his tek originally but I couldn't get the outside to dry, no matter what I tried. By the time I was told that I can load them wet, I had already tinkered with the prep enough to be completely different. In my case, speed is what matters most so I kept changing stuff that would make the prep shorter.
Now I just boil those fuckers to my desired hydration level, strain them till they stop dripping and load them in the jars, still steaming hot. I haven't had a faster prep than that so far.
OAts are very hard to fuck up, even if you overhydrate them it's really hard to get a clumped jar of grains. I haven't seen an oat prep tek that I wouldn't recommend honestly, apart from the one where you throw water and grains and PC. It's all just preference. Some like to soak and some like them done fast.

I use eatyu's easy oat prep. add 15 minutes to foomans tek and thats all lol. I just love dumping boiling water on stuff and calling it a day. too easy.. https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/22158748
my screen was just from scraps around the shed. I have a larger one made with 2x4 and 1x2 with the screen stapled in between. the 2x4 acting as a wall to keep the grain from spilling. made it to fit over a bathtub. mesh is window screen, like $4 for a huge roll.

My method is very similiar to van der grieger's, the only difference is that he hydrates fully and dries before loading, instead of hydrate a little less and load while the grains are steaming.

Depends on the grain you are using really. Nothing too new either, just little adaptations to the method.
There's a soak no simmer tek for WBS for example. Big grains like rye and oats can be boiled with no soak. Optionally, you can leave them a tad bit dry and load them wet like I was talking about. Shaves off time by not having to dry them.
It's just hydration, no matter how different a tek is it's still doing the same thing. There is no ultimate tek when it comes to this stuff, just personal preference.

I use whole oats as well and don't even do a simmer anymore.
All I do is soak for 24hours with some gypsum in the water, rinse with HOT tap water... drain a strainer for about an hour (just to let excess water drain off), then load into jars. Any water that is left over absorbs when I run the PC cycle.
This works great for me every time and after some experimenting have found no need to do them any other way...

It's actually a boil, a simmer would take longer. Rye can be a little more delicate than oats I hear, so you could do a simmer on your first few tries and work your way up from there.
If speed is what you are after, I would suggest you give loading the grains wet a try. Just leave the grain slightly dry on the inside, just a speck of white in the core and just strain them until they stop dripping and load them into your jars. This is what my grains look like when I take them off the heat and pour them into the strainer. You can see two tiny specks of white at the core where the grain is thickest.

I load them into jars a minute or two later, you can see they are still steaming a lot.

that steaming is great for getting the outside dry too so look for that when you drop it in your strainer. i use the same strainers as shown here and i love them.

Hahahaha I had my girl get my kitchen spotless and bleached down the other night before I started my summer project! Probably would never have started if she wasn't there to clean all the damn jars
Haha Ya cleaning 50-60+ jars and lids are a bitch I throw them in the tub with some antibacterial and bleach and get on it she cleans everything else tho I'm lazy when it comes to house cleaning
