    #23381374 - 06/25/16 04:31 PM (7 years, 7 months ago)

Its hot as fudge in mississippi and a shovel and hatchet isnt cutting it. Mimosa hostilis. And the ground is heavy in clay. Im exhausted and gave up. We have a lot of them. Anyone got tips before I kill myself?

Maybe a pick axe. You risk damaging the roots though. And holy shit your lucky for having a mimosa tree!

I really hope you don't plan on damaging the tree, that would be really shitty of you. I'm assuming you're trying to get at that lovely root bark?

What kind of shovel are you using?

Shovels with long narrow blades are best for cutting through roots in heavy clay provided that the tree isn't too big -- something like a drain spade or similar

Also try saturating the soil with water an hour or so before you start digging
