Can someone experienced check if I'm correct?
    #23380495 - 06/25/16 11:25 AM (7 years, 7 months ago)

Hello,

So soon it will be my first time actually growing from spores and not from an already colonized grow kit. (All it required was misting it twice daily, not much skill required)

I'll have a sterilized bag of rye with a micron filter and an self healing injection port.

Here's my plan.
1. Inoculate the bag. (flame the needle, use an alcohol swab at the port)
2. Mix the substrate to spread the spores evenly.
3. Let it colonize in proper conditions.
4. When it's fully colonized, open up the bag. Throw a layer of vermiculite at the top, mist the bag, close it up and place it in indirect daylight. (Mist two times a day from now on)
5. After some time I should theoretically be able to harvest.
6. After harvesting, pour cold water into the bag, leave it overnight.
7. Pour the remaining water out of the bag, repeat the process for the next flush.

Are there any flaws in my plan? Thank you in advance.

I'd rather buy a PC and make grain jars or go with the pf-tek if you dont want a PC.
pre-sterilized grain bags arent all it's made out to be, grain bags shouldn't be injected with spores and especially not sit on a shelf somewhere waiting for you to order it.

Once the bag is colonized it may be a better option to case it in a monotub or something... there are so many better options
At least casing it will get consistant FAE instead of suffocating your shrooms in a bag between mistings.

Don't mix it directly after shooting spores... Let it colonize some first... It's easier for the spores to find each other if they aren't all spread apart.

Using PC/jars would be too problematic to me. Why do you think that grain bags shouldn't be injected with spores? Especially if they are well sealed and made with a micron filter and a self healing injection point, I think that's perfect. It's all about the mycelium colonizing the substrate, not the container right? Mine looks like this btw: https://azarius.net/images/resize/large/06540_2_mushbag_rye.jpg

What if I make a few holes in the bag for FAE?

You're right, thank you for advice!

because sterilized grains aren't truly sterile, they're only clean enough for you to get a window to colonize them.
I've seen those bags fail way way more than succeed, its a weekly thing here people coming with majorly bacterial bags that's taken a month+ to colonize.

Idk man I'd personally try following some TEKs and getting an understanding of proper procedures rather than trying to pioneer something right off the bat
