First time mushroom grow

Hello! So I've recently lost the option to smoke weed because of my new job. So after doing los of research I decided to move on to P. Cubes. I will be growing them myself and need help and advice on how to go about this best. For supplies I have 12 quart jars with a slight lip(I know now that I should have gotten the 1/2 pint jars with no lip but my moneys already spent and I'd like to make due if that's possible at this point, two 8 quart bags of vermiculite, one 32 oz bag of organic brown rice flour, and two syringes of P. cube spores from a reputable vendor. I plan on cutting up cakes after they've fully colonized, dunk and roll, and place in a fruiting chamber that I plan to make from a sterilized plastic tub. Please fill any gaps or holes in my plan, should I get any other basic necessities, should I fill jars all the way to top? Sorry if the information is already out there but I'm new to the forum and after hours on youtube, shroomery, and other sites I still feel like I need some advice on my personal grow. I live in Wisconsin and its summer right now so that's my natural climate, but I can adjust temp inside my house with C.A. Please help..Thanks

take the vendor out of your post.
don't cut up the cakes. fruit them in the jar.
your fruiting chamber is not and never will be sterile. fruiting itself is not sterile.

If i fruit in jar will i fill the jar half way up with substrate then? Won't they need room to grow? Also i removed vendor sorry about that.

http://www.mushroomvideos.com/ watch the first 4 videos in that playlist. fruit in the jars since you can't remove them.

If I couldn't smoke weed I would certainly not "move on" to mushrooms as some form of replacement.

I've already watched that whole series. Those vids didn't address my questions concerning fruiting in jar. Do I fill jar up all the way with substrate, how do I harvest, will my yield be smaller, how many flushes can I get growing in vitro?

You don't want to fruit entirely inside of a half pint jar, that's not enough room, so fill it all the way up and take off the lid, you'll still need a fruiting chamber that way. Well granted, you can't fill it all the way up because you should have a dry verm barrier there so... A bit less than full.

When its time to fruit, leave them in the jar and remove the lid. Do everything else exactly like the videos. You'll get what you get.

Before I had all the info I went ahead and bought a set of 12 quart jars with lips, that's why it's been suggested I fruit in jar. Is it possible to remove cakes by cutting up with a sterilized knife? Will that hurt my yield. I've also heard about casing, which to my knowledge is breaking up colonized substrate and placing in a diff container to fruit, but my concerns with that is damaging the mycelium network.

And your sure it wouldn't be more effective to cut up cakes? I'll take your word on it but with this method is there any way to rehydrate for multiple flushes.

So the other post confused me. I just fill jar with water after first flush, or place jar w/o lid in water. Also im looking to max my total harvest, would it make sense money wise to buy more jars w/o lip or will the ones i have deliver same results. If im looking at a diff of 1-2 grams dry weight i dont really care.

just do whatever you feel comfortable doing to get water in the cakes. its not something you can really screw up as long as you don't leave them in the water for more than 24 hours

How do i drain the water since the cakes will be stuck in the jars? Just leave upside down to drain

Also the lip is very slight, they are wide mouth. Do cakes shrink while colonizing bc if they do they SHOULD pop out.

it will shrink after it grows some mushrooms. you may be able to remove it after the first flush, but its not entirely necessary.

Ive decided to just buy some 1/2 pint jars. Ive read larger jars make for slow colinization and sometimes stall or dont finish colonizing.

Hope they're wide mouth, since the tall regular mouth half pints are some of the ones that work a little less than optimally.
