Things you recommend buying at the dollar store? Along with things you would never buy? 4

So I'm going to need everybody's input on this particular topic. What are some things that you buy from the $1 dollar store, that you would consider to be absolute deals? Conversely, what are some items that you would never buy at the dollar store?
I'm curious, because me being the thrifty bargain hunter that I am, occasionally purchase items here and there from the dollar store, and have more than once, been pleasantly surprised by the quality of the product.
Here are, in my experience, the best products you can buy for its value at the dollar store:
-Glassware, flatware, silverware, table settings, and plates. You can buy ceramic and glass plates, place-mats, glasses, forks, spoons, and cups that would have cost 5-10 times as much anywhere else. Depending on the location, I've also found more obscure items, such as plastic or metal chopsticks, cast iron noodle bowls (the same ones used for nabeyaki udon or soon tofu), martini and margarita glasses, etc. They sometimes also have a good design selection in stock... You can find the same square plates and triangle plates and charcuterie boards and sauce plates that are often served at trendy restaurants.
-Toothbrushes. Toothpaste I've noticed is not much of a bargain--even if you do find brand-name toothpaste, the tube is often half the size it would be at the drugstore, thus not saving you any money. Floss, same thing, you're buying half the amount you would buy anywhere else. But it's a good bargain for when you're in a pinch and only want to spend $1 to clean your teeth.
-Underwear! I wouldn't ever wear socks from the dollar store (the material is too thin and flimsy to be comfortable, and ultra-thin socks like that make your feet stink when you wear them). But $1 underwear makes perfect "period panties" lol, you don't want to wear anything super nice or expensive for that time of the month... If I wore bras, I would probably try them out from the dollar store, and see how they are.
-SOME drugstore medications and creams. I found a Vick's Vapor Rub knock-off at the dollar store that had the exact same ingredients as Vick's Vapor on the label. I would buy things like ibuprofen or Immodium or other medications from the dollar store (because again, many times you are just paying for a smaller quantity, not necessarily a lesser quality), but other meds and creams can be hit or miss.
-Fake nails, eyelash extensions, and manicure sets. I've bought sets of fake nails for $1 that are perfectly fine. The only thing I don't recommend is the nail glue, dollar store nail glue is very weak and doesn't hold any bond at all. The actual nail glue you should buy from a pharmacy, and the fake nails you should get from the dollar store to save $$$. Same goes for disposable eyelash extensions. Buy the extensions at the dollar store, use a much higher-quality glue from the drugstore.
-Pregnancy tests. Surprisingly shown to be more sensitive than the $15 digital pregnancy tests (see here: https://www.reddit.com/r/LifeProTips/comments/1ubjif/lpt_dollar_store_pregnancy_tests_are_as_sensitive/ ). Apparently dollar store pregnancy tests are also the same ones that are used at various health departments and hospitals.
Now here is the list of things I would NEVER ever be caught dead buying from the dollar store:
-Cookware. This applies ESPECIALLY to knives, pots, pans, can openers, carrot peelers, etc. Other items such as colanders or metal tongs, I would definitely buy, but that's on a case-by-case basis dependent on quality and material and other factors.
-Food. It's one thing to get a sealed bag of potato chips or canned goods, that's perfectly fine. But I would never ever buy "real" food like eggs, cheese, meats, or any vegetables at the dollar store. I would also never buy any of these things at Wal-Mart either, and I legitimately wonder whether the dollar store or Wal-Mart has higher-quality grocery food.
-Make-up. 'Nuff said. If it's low-quality it's runny, clumpy, barely lasts even an hour after application, and I don't trust overly cheap inedible material being applied around my eyes or on my mouth.
-Lotion and other beauty products, particularly any creams or washes for the face.
-Douches (I don't ever use douches to begin with, but I ESPECIALLY would never use a douche that cost only $1. That also goes for vaginal creams or suppositories or anything to do with that area). Because..... duh.
-Q-tips. I don't even buy generic brand q-tips at the drugstore. The cotton swabs are not as full on the generic stuff, and the cardboard/wooden sticks bend too easily with the slightest pressure, thus rendering it incapable of a deep ear-cleaning. Q-tips are the one of those items I only buy brand-name on.
-Batteries. Purchased them once. They didn't last nearly as long and died within 2 hours in a CD-player. Maybe it was just that particular brand and was a fluke, but it permanently deterred me from buying batteries at the dollar store. Watch batteries however, I have heard good things about.
-Condoms... I'm actually pretty 50/50 about whether dollar store condoms are safe to use or not. Could they possibly be that much more fragile and unreliable than the free condoms that they pass out at universities or gay pride parades or county health centers? I am very interested to know, if anybody knows any information about their efficacy and durability.
What are your list guys, of things you would and wouldn't buy from the $1 store?

Someone I know got a hammer from the dollar store once, and the metal tubing of the handle just crumpled when they tried pulling a nail with it. I don't shop there too much, can't stand the smell of shitty plastic.

Ugh that $1 steak looks fucking disgusting. I usually buy dog toys and chips when i go into a dollar store. They have the hookup on sponges too.

Lol, that "steak" looked more like a piece of prosciutto to me.
Interesting to know about the sponges, I'll have to grab them from there next time I need them.
Another bargain I'd like to add: Microfiber cloth!

Older audio cables work ok from the dollar store, I used to get a bunch of containers to grow boomers in. Most of the stuff there is crap so I generally don't buy anything from the dollar store unless I'm planning on using it then tossing it.

Do you not have them in your country? They're stores where you buy things for 99 cents or $1. They only sell items that are $1

Sometimes those non alkaline batteries are good for shit like cheap vibrators I swear an energizer battery will short circuit 'em.

everyone in my house has allergies to one thing or another and we go through tons of Kleenex here.
i either buy a huge box off of amazon or get smaller amounts of boxes from the dollar store, they are like a 1/3 of the price there.

Sponges for sure
I do buy makeup there for Costume parties and whatnot, because it's so rare that I will use it. The last party was an 80s theme so the trashier the better and the dollar store has the hookup on trashy makeup.
Gift bags and wrapping paper
Bubbles
Glowsticks
I got some pretty nice curtains there not too long ago

Ouch toilet paper from the dollar store sounds like sandpaper.

Thats a pretty extensive list there!
u still use a portable CD player? U might wanna upgrade soon....
I buy a lot from the dollar store, a lot of it is hit or miss.
Books are a killer deal. Buy the novels.
Specific pens are good. For example, the Inc Forma pens are excellent! U get 3 pens per package. The shitty pens? Jot brand. Jot brand makes some shitty pens.
BUT, Jot makes a decent mini calculator. Theres a large format calculator that sucks ass, piece of garbage, but that mini one with rubber buttons is legit.
Frozen foodss are crappy but snacks are good.
EDIT: TP from dollar store is good, but u dont get much. Its soft
