Good suggestions Mupetmower! After doing enough grows you will learn that caution and instinct coincide. When you birth a good cake or any spawn for that matter color, smell, and moisture will be the primary indicators of contams. Once you experience good and bad grows you will learn from them! It's all fun to me either way!

Thats the reason I'm keeping it, even if it goes completely rotten: so that I can learn what some of those colors, smells, moisture levels, etc are like. I dont exactly WANT any jars to fail, but it will actually be a good thing, in the long run, if any do.
We have more to learn from our losses than our wins.

Exactly! Always keep your head up and try to learn from everything. I promise you that it will be fun that way vs someone just trying to get a buzz. Try to remember that mushies change your perception for a reason. But they must be respected and patience is the hardest. If it goes bad then you can always try again! Been there many of times and I'm sure all TCs on here went through the same problems starting out.
I'm sure you will hear it again, but if this round fails.. Try switching to grain spawn. Even though I started with PF tek many years ago and learned a lot from it, grains are so much easier to sterilize and work with. G2G transfers will make it even easier for a new grower!
Stick with it. All that we have is time.
