Job ideas for someone who likes public speaking?
    #23374516 - 06/23/16 05:32 PM (7 years, 8 months ago)

Hi guys,

Recently I've quit my job because I've realized that I didn't like what I was doing.  Now I'm in the process of looking for something that I'll actually enjoy.

Before my last job I used to teach English, and I did enjoy that, but I could tell it wasn't 100% my thing.  I realized that I enjoyed the interaction with a group of people, and I think that whatever I decide to do, will need to have public speaking as a major element.  It could be giving speeches, business presentations, etc, or I'm even throwing around ideas like becoming a motivational speaker or a stand up comedian.

Anyway I'm just looking for ideas that I may not have thought of, I'll start looking for jobs soon, but not quite sure what to look for exactly.  So what jobs can you guys think of that involve a lot of public speaking?

hah I was doing sales my last two jobs, I was good at it and the money was good, but I didn't enjoy it as much as teaching English for example, and I realized that no amount of money was worth doing what I didn't really enjoy.

I'm thinking more along the lines of actually being on a stage and giving a speech to a lot of people, well it doesn't have to be a lot, but probably more than 10

Get into direct marketing. Not a pyramid scheme. Sometimes it's hard to tell the difference.

With most direct marketing companies, they want to teach you as much as humanly possible as fast as possible. The goal is to make you a boss and put you in your own franchise/office. The company makes way more money off an office than off a single sales person. They will first teach you to sale their product. Then they teach you to train someone else, you usually start on this your second week. Once you've learned that, you learn to manage full carloads of sales people. You'll also start giving the morning and evening meetings, this is where public speaking in a class room setting would appeal to you. Eventually, you learn how to do interviews and how to do office work and all the behind the scenes shit. Then they pay for a new office and loan you a bunch of merch, and you start up on your own doing exactly what your boss did.

I did this for a couple years. Ran my own business. Was hella fun. But hella stressful. I only do laid back work now. I miss it a lot sometimes though.

Good luck!

Anything that involves making arguments in courtrooms. My mate is the best public speaker I know and makes a fucking ton of money since he's moved into this field. Like every time I see him he's wearing some new £3,500 watch or driving some flash new Merc.

If money is your thing, that is...

I've always wanted to wear a mic and sell ginsu knives and shamwows and shit like they do at local fairs.

I present scientific issues and data fairly often.
