Any athletes here who smoke weed? I'd like to start a discussion regarding athletes experiences smoking weed. Whatever comes to your mind...do you play stoned? How does it affect your game? Your wind? etc...

I do boxing, bjj and kickboxing/muay thai and everyone says my cardio is the best in my gym despite me smoking weed everyday. I can go a full amateur match full pace all the way through without getting as tired or slow as my opposition in boxing and kickboxing/muay thai. I also have a perfect amateur record of straight wins

Thats awesome! I train brazilian jiu jitsu as well!
I smoke before I train all the time - pretty much every time, these days. I even competed (and silvered) in a sub only (no time limit) tournament not too long ago.
I'm one of the fitter guys at our school, though I know for sure that my conditioning is better when I dont smoke regularly.
I bought a vapor pen (the Snoop Dogg G pen comes with a super nice grinder, btw!) thinking that vaping would be better than smoking, but I havent even tried to use it lol!

I'm a strength coach and hybrid weightlifter/power lifter. Anyway, smoking hasn't had any negative effects on my lifting but cardiovascularly I have become pretty deconditioned from smoking and not doing any cardio.
I have lifted high a few times but cleaning as heavy as possible and being high do not go together well.

I lift as well, but its for general health/fitness and durability on the mat. I never smoke before I lift though.
I'm not sure how cannabis affects my jiu jitsu game - my skills on the mat...I'm in the middle of my blue belt, so general improvement should be mostly proportional to the effort and attention I give to my training. My game is definitely the best its ever been, but I think that trend will continue whether I smoke or not for a good while to come.

I compete in motocross, bmx, mountain biking, and snowboarding. Obviously, I gotta train for all of those in lots of different ways....I smoke as much weed/dabs as possible before and after all of those things, and if I could find a way to do it during, I'd do that too:)

Do you think cannabis improves your skills? Hinders your skills?

Dosen't really matter what I think, the reality is it does not improve my skills but it does make it more fun.

I read an article in a running magazine a few months ago about cannabis and running, also a cycling magazine I read frequently had an article on cycling and cannabis a couple months later, both publications said that cannabis will only mess with your ability to perform properly if you smoke a ton, and they mention vaping/edibles as a way to partake of the leaf and still perform well.
They have 5K runs in the states where cannabis is legal, the people that put on the events want to break the lazy stoner stereotype, I find this very cool.
If you let a substance make you lazy, then you're probably just a lazy person in general. Cannabis was never a substance which made me a couch potato, I would love to smoke and go do something outside.

The best ballers at my high school were all stoners. LOL. A lot of basketball players are stoners. Wether it helps or not.. IDK.
Be interesting to see pro athletes coming out and supporting medical weed. Football would probably be the best sport to use it in I feel…

I had a prof in a pharmacology course tell us she went to Jamacia to study the use of pot there, this would have been back in the late 60's or early 70's. What she found was that the locals used it daily to stave off hunger and allow them to work in the fields all day. Exactly the opposite of what we generally think it does. She'd come to the conclusion that pot dosen't make users do anything, rather it is the user's perception of what it does that decides.

i think it can be beneficial if you are used to the effects to get into the "zone" where you are completely in tune with the moment and anticipating what is coming next.

I like to take a dab and work out. With some music it's quite nice. If anything it's easier to workout for longer.

Edibles don't work for me, just kinda makes me sleepy. But I love to smoke a few bowls or dabs and go shred. My favorite is motocross, mostly because I've been doing it since I was a little kid. The best is when I go up to the starting line for a race lit like a Christmas tree....makes me see the gate drop in slow motion so I can get out front early:). I do honestly think it gives me a mental competitive advantage braaaaap
