Candy Cap?
    #23372281 - 06/23/16 02:39 AM (7 years, 7 months ago)

Found a few early mushrooms on my property, anyone have an ID for this find? Only thing I can find in my book that is close would be candy cap (lactarius rubidus) help is greatly appreciated, would love some fresh mushrooms with dinner tomorrow!

Habitat:
Where does it grow? Eg. woods, pasture, state, province, country, altitude, etc. What does it grow on? Eg. soil, dung, wood (dead, living, what kind of wood?), etc.

Growing in a small group under spruce treeso, possibly growing off of roots. 100 feet from sea level in southeast alaska.

Gills:
Color, attached/not, gills/pores, etc.

Pinkish, attached gills, spores very white cream and abundant. Natural spore production blanketed younger mushrooms in white cream spores.

Stem:
Length, diameter, color, texture, hollow/solid, thin/thick, etc.

Maybe 4 inches length, thickness of a dime at thickest portion, fibrous and solid. Snaps like chalk when broken.

Cap:
Diameter, color, texture, conical/spherical, convex/concave, etc.

Diameter of a baseball, tan/pink, mature cap mostly flat younger specimens more bell/dome shaped or flat. Not scaly, slimy, or rough, mostly smooth cap.

Spore print color:
Very important!

Very white cream and prolific natural spore producer.

Bruising:
Color that the mushroom bruises, if any.

No bruising or discoloration.

Other information:
Scent of the mushroom, anything else you think is important, large close-up pictures showing stem, cap and gills.

Looks like a Laccaria sp., perhaps L. proxima.

Doesn't seem positive enough for me to test my luck with eating em quite yet. Lots of laccaria sp that all look very similar. Was really hoping it was a candy lol but I figured as much, they're never quite what I think they are.

Found a southeast alaska identification book and found the exact laccaria special that we have here, says it smells pleasant and tastes pleasant as well so I will probably give them a try this weekend. Thanks for the ID help, much appreciated!
