'New' air filter. Check it out.

Accidentaly came across an infomercial that might actualy be usefull.

Its not really new technology, but maybe its the first on the market in the price range. Ive heard some of you talking about 'ionizing' the air, well this one also does that. Doesnt say what micron it filters down to, but it cleaned smoke out of the air in their demonstration. Pretty fast too.

-Uses same technology as used on US submarines.
-Cleans 30'x30' room in 1 hour.
-Ultra quiet (in the ad they had a baby sleep next to it)
-Permanent filter.
-etc. etc.......check it out!

www.oreckcleanair.com

Its $350.

(edit) You might as well check out their main site section on air purifiers: http://www.oreck.com/air-purifiers/index.cfm

my understanding is that it is not a "filter" but makes particles heavier than air and settles on the ground..smells,and smoke etc.

me thinks?

A good rule of thumb is if it's on an infomercial, it's a rip. That certainly looks like a ripoff. You can get a large HEPA filter at Sears for $150.

There is a hepa filter/ionizer on sale at Wal-mart right now for $40, it works really well in a medium sized room, and has 3 speed settings. check it out, the Ionizer just removes odors and such from the air, it is explained in one of my botanical growing guides, it has to do with negativly charged particles floating around, and the ionizer pushes out positive charged particles, and when they bond they become heavier then air and fall to the ground, therefor you can smell them anymore.

Wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole .  It is NOT a filter.  It will only put 96% of what you don't want on the floor to be swept up with every footstep.  And the price is enormous for what it does.
Now there are some ionizers which have a negative plate to collect the positively charged particles and those have some benefit for your clean area.
