Cakes (Day 5 in SGFC) - How are they looking?

Hello Everyone!
These cakes are on Day 5 in the fruiting chamber. -Indirectly misting the cakes when the surface mycelium is dry. -Fanning each time I mist. -Directly spraying the top layer of perlite when I open the lid for fanning/misting.
The first few days I did quite a bit of fanning and misting. The last two days I've really cut down and am fanning misting once in the a.m before work (7am), again around 5PM, again around 7-8PM and the final one before bed (midnight-ish).
If the cakes aren't wet when I fan/mist - is there still a chance I am misting/fanning too much?
Check out muh cakes.... let me know what you guys/girls think they need or if they look aye-okay and I should keep on keepin' on!
Hivemind Go!

Dunk AND roll
Edit: everything else looks good in my inexperienced opinion

Looking good, champ. Lay out a piece of foil to set your cakes on, give them new bottoms, then cluster them back closely together in the FC. Only reason I say this is that they eat foil and the water/verm pools which can lead to bacteria. Especially now that they're in fruiting conditions you don't want to make them vulnerable. I don't like standing water so I just put my cakes on the lids (no ring) and it slopes down preventing this. The walls of your sgfc look good. You may not have to mist the perlite so much, depending on humidity or fans in the room. They look good. Good job keep us posted.
When you mist, you fan the chamber to just get that mushroom smell, like a light scoop or two of air and the sgfc does the rest. Mist when they look dry and if you handle them clean your hands and put nitrile gloves on. Buy a box of 200 you'll need them later anyway. Only reason I say to lay them out on foil is because it's clean when off the roll and a quick easy spot to place them temporarily.
Check the perlite with gloves on while still in there and rehydrate (mist a lot) and fluff it back up if it's dry.
Edit: in the future if you do cakes again, get a finer verm. Also when dunking 24h and rolling is done, let the cakes sit 24-36 hours to pull in that verm. It helps keep that 1-2mm microclimate distributed across the whole surface of the cake. Even then for the next day or two I won't mist directly. Just above the tub so the mist falls gently on them, and do a very gentle fanning. It's just something I've found helps and others may disagree. Standing water and verm just don't work for me maybe it's OCD.

Not misting enough, fanning too much.
You want the cakes to be a little wet almost all the time. At least the verm, that is. Fanning is just to remove the humid air in the tub so evaporation can be more efficient. You only need to fan for a few seconds, you should not be drying out the cakes with your fan.

Thanks for the comment. I have many disposable gloves available so I will give them some new bottoms immediately. I'll also fluff up the perlite like you said and re-moisten it.
These were dunked for 24 hours and rolled in verm, but I think the verm was too coarse and not ground enough... Next time I plan on grinding up the verm a bit before rolling. Which should help for a more even coating next time.
Green Rabbit - I read that water fully evaporating off the cakes is a pinning trigger. I may have misread that as thinking my cakes should be moist>dry>moist>dry..
Thanks for the advice! I'll keep you posted on subsequent days!

I think they look good. If I had to bet on it, I would say you should expect some pins any time now.

No that's true, but you don't want to be drying them out yourself. Let the airflow created by the SGFC dry them out. It should take a few hours between mistings.

Perfect-thank you for clearing that up!
They are on their lids now too... I fluffed up the perlite (which was still quite wet) and placed them in a tighter configuration in the center of the sgfc. I noticed a few tiny dots of very white mycelium at the bottom where the cake was close to the foil! I'm hoping they are pins like I was hoping my girlfriend wasn't pregnant in highschool...
Hurry up delicious fungal fruiting!

I`m watching you with bated breath! My first cakes are in dunk phase right now, so I`ll be where you are very shortly! I`ve got my fingers crossed for you.

I feel like an 'i' could have made that a much more innocent sentence.

I suppose the term might look less suspect if I used the common internet misspelling of "baited"- but I abhor internet misspellings. They are for loosers.

Oh, would you look at that! You're right. Historically anyways. It seems most modern texts have the misspelling with the 'i'. However losers has one 'o'.

Hey Sputnik... I've only done cakes one time, and I had a fairly easy time. I was fairly young then and didn't care about the logistics or the way things really worked. But like with all things that reward you with something, if you begin to understand it fully - you will have the best possible outcome.
A few years ago I did my first grow, it was a 12 jar batch of BRF cakes that did what I wanted but not quite enough... so I went on to do 3-4 sessions of double/mono tubs that REALLY put out. I skipped the basics and went to the more advanced teks and never grabbed the beginner's points fully. So now that I'm back in the game, I'm going to make sure I know EXACTLY how everything is working!!!

The purposeful misspelling of "losers" was an attempt at ironic humor.
