Premature Birth

Good day and thanks ahead for reading. One of my jars took longer to colonize than usual. The longest I've ever experienced before and I ended up birthing the cake too early. It looked fully colonized so I believe the inside must not have finished. I dunked and rolled it. It's been in the chamber about a month now and it has been colonizing the verm on the outside. As of now the cake is more than 3/4 colonized around the outside layer of verm. I've never had one take this long. It looks healthy... What are some potential options for this bad boy to become a success? Dunk and roll again? Allow it to colonize more and continue "nursing" her? Possibly some FAE type of solution? I'd appreciate any advice or ideas.

Without a look at the fruiting chamber and the cake itself, it's gonna be real hard to diagnose what's going on here.

It's because of the fallout new vegas right there... your cakes are taking too many rads.
But seriously, make a proper fruiting chamber. That'll probably fix it, though 1/4 pint cakes don't fruit so well because they're so small they lose moisture very quickly.

If you have a bunch of them, put them very closely clustered together. If it's by itself, then no wonder.

I've got the same thing going on with 12 cakes. It was either birth a week early or risk a heatwave that knocked out all my cultures and future jars.
They, too, have the verm completely colonized. It's kind of risky doing this and I know it sucks to hear but just keep at it and more patience. What I noticed was that 1 week of consolidation is 2 extra weeks in fruiting conditions if not more which is why it's so important.

If you're not sure of your technique run two sets of jars, set about 15 days apart. By the time your first set is in the fruiting chamber, you'll have already learned the fan/mist/requirements and come out with a successful grow. I don't know tho, some people jump to grains fast, but I think learning contams and basic sterile technique leads to other things. It's one thing to hold a cake in your hand and realize it's dry, or if you're over watering, bacterial, mutants. I understand more about outdoor mushrooms though so this was harder to learn for me.
Keep at it though champ, and read up on agar while you're waiting for your other projects. Gives you something to do while things grow, helps impatience and passes the time. It's worth it.
