Some casual reishi grows
    #23367566 - 06/21/16 05:24 PM (7 years, 8 months ago)

Reishi is one of the coolest mushrooms to grow, in my opinion.
Just went through my gallery and thought i'd share some eye candy from my grows.

The firs time i grew those, i inoculated some ryegrain from an LC syringe and transferred the colonized grain onto 10% bran supplemented sterilized sawdust.

At that time i didn't have a laminar flow hood. I made the LC in a glovebox, inocluated the substrate using the "oven tek" in my kitchen.

Incubated them behind my couch, next to the radiator.

They colonized the substrate in 12 days.

After full colonization i decided to use an aquarium to fruit a couple.

Then i thought, i need something bigger and built a small greenhouse.

With very little air exchange, they developed some alien antlers.

And then i fell in love with them.

Got one to fruit through the microfilter.

Then i got a lab, and shit went crazy.

It's an easy mushroom to grow and the results are very rewarding.

Keep shroomin'
Casual

Nice photos.

Did you notice any benefits from casing those with Verm. compared to uncased grows?

No, none at all. Verm on Reishis in my growroom got moldy in about 2 weeks. It takes so long to mature, that i imagine every casing would contaminate
When fruiting them in the living room, it gives a bit of visual appeal, but that's about it.

casual, I highly recommend lowering your substrate depth to 3" and growing sterile  invitro in the bag. You will not be disappointed. Also bump up your moisture level to 70-80%, I typically add 4-8 extra oz H20 per bag using 60% moisture substrate from a larger batch for a few reishi bags.  The reishi can handle it and it will help with a larger flush. Also reishi do not take much spawn at all, the last batch i did i used maybe a teaspoon of spawn per 2-4 lb bag and the myc still ripped through it in 2 weeks. You can probably make 40 bags with 2-3 qts of spawn.

Very nice! It looks like you are actually growing real Ganoderma lucidum. Where did you get your strain from?

Most reishi grown on this site is actually other species, usually G.sessile or G.curtisii sometimes G.lingzhi depending on where the strain comes from. I don't think I have actually seen anyone else growing G.lucidum:dancingbacon:

Growing reishi invitro is a great way to fuck up your antlers when they run into the bag sides. Sometimes the best advice is not giving any at all.  If those fruits don't dry out they could continue growing for months tripling in size. Not to mention that sub can be reflushed several times over with great results. After which it can be buried and still kick out another nice fruit...

amazing looking reishi casual, I'm yet to get them to grow out tall like yours have.
what's wrong with the reishi touching the walls poof? if you want them to conk out just remove them from their invitro climate and let them conk out...
I don't see gr0wers advice as being flawed, the comment on the extra h20 is new info for me and something I'll probably try out soon.

It appears casual has his methods down for primo antlers. Fruiting antlers inside bags really isn't necessary and it almost always deforms your fruits from them pressing and growing against the walls of the bags. 3 inches of sub per bag seems pretty wasteful on plastic.

Nothing personal, it just seems silly when casuals already on the right path.  :lahey:

Not to mention the lack of airflow in the bags often causes the antlers to turn sort of dull or even fuzzy. Open air is best if you want that nice shiny finish.

I've also noticed that using hard water to mist the fruits can often leave an undesirable film or buildup on the mushrooms surface.

Just something to keep in mind if your striving for exceptional fruits that can sometimes take months before maturing and harvesting.

I have like 20 bags similar to this. 3" is all you need to fill a XL bag with densely packed antlers, these still need a few more weeks still. I would be highly considering re using these bags if it wasn't for me having 700 more, steam sterilized, no bag cutting and minimal handling leaves these bags in great shape. Maybe 1/10 antlers have some wall touching and wont look as pretty, but my shit gets dehydrated and vacuum packed, ground up and mylar bag packaged or made into tinctures so its not like presentation needs to be amazing. And not to mention the spores, my antlers are covered in spores, which is also a large medicinal component. My fingers are greenish/brownish with spores when i harvest these.

Also not to mention the lack of grow chamber. I'm a urban production cultivator and grow space is at a premium, these however get stuffed behind my couch and forgotten about. It might not grow the sexiest mushrooms but id be willing to bet the BE from this method is prolly one of the highest BE methods you can grow reishi.

Sometimes its best to not say smartass comments at all.

GrOwer, that looks like a very good BE indeed! I def got to try that 3in substrate tek.
Unfortunately we had to move out of our fancy facility and it will take a while till i can get a new grow set up.

The strain that i have is Gluckspilze's Sopron.

Also, due to the move, i have like 15 fully colonized Reishi dishes left over. If anyone is interested, PM.

Yea moves can be rough. Will the new location have larger growspace? I'm planning to move soon myself. Upgrade to a two car garage.

Casual is using 10% bran I'm using 20%. I am now trying soybean hull/fuel pellets vs 20% bran.
