Casing question and urgent!

Really need help here guys - after much failure I finally got a monotub fully colonized. I then waited a week after full colonization and applied a 1/2" thick casing layer of 50-50 verm / coco coir.
Well it has been about 8 days and there are only maybe 2 "nickel sized" patches of mycelium on it. I know I'm supposed to wait until the casing layer is about 20% colonized before inducing fruiting conditions, but at this rate I don't know...
I THINK the casing layer may be too dry, would spraying it with water be a viable solution? Posting pictures is sort of pointless - just imagine a casing layer with a very small amount of mycelium on it. Help someone please!!!

Pic's are never pointless. You don't know what you are looking at. It's like a mechanic trying to perform heart surgery by describing what he sees over the phone to a cardiothoracic surgeon.

Okay so is it alright for me to open the tub to take a picture? I was sort of under the impression the tub is supposed to stay shut until I remove the tape from the holes, add polyfil and engage fruiting conditions.

You can fruit right from the moment you spawn if you wanted as long as it didn't dry out. Yes open it up and take a pic. It won't hurt a thing.

I will post a picture in a few hours, please do respond as I've worked very hard to get to this point.
Assuming everything looks very normal, what will your recommended course of action be?

Edit: Open it up to fruiting conditions, sounds like it has had plenty of time. No need to colonise a casing much, just a lil bit is fine to get the myc forming possible pin locations on it, then open up to fruit. It might keep eating the casing after fruiting anyway. I wouldn't be too worried about contams or anything as long as you prepped it good.
Get some pictures up.

I am kinda wondering a similar question. Although I've added a 1/2" casing layer. 2 days or so have went by and I'm at this point.

Figured it wasn't worthy of my own thread until I start fruiting which comes my question..
Do you think it's ready for fruiting conditions? I do but this is my first mono and I'm just wanting opinions. Thanks guys!

You really do have to make your own thread instead of asking questions in other people's.

Oh thanks for the helpful reply. There's so many topics on the front page I didn't want to add another. Guess I will.

Yeah that tub should be fruiting, you should make a grow log.

thank you very much I decided to make a thread on this tub and post pics as it fruits
again, sorry for posting in someones thread. I wasn't trying to hijack it.. Just figured it would be okay to get an opinion on a similar topic.
Dont mind me! :o

Personally I would give that a mist and fruit it now.

Thank you. I wanted to say that when i removed the lid just now to take the picture, a bunch of water fell from condensating on the lid so it does seem fairly wet...
It is no where near 20% though, isn't that what I want? Keep in mind I applied the casing layer 8 days ago, and in comparison to how quickly the entire substrate colonized fully in about the same time, it makes me nervous.

Depends. If you cased it thick then it probably won't colonize it much more than that. Won't matter, the pins will still form and push up, like they did in this tub for instance.
If they are done eating, then get em fruiting.

To be honest I really didn't case it very thick at all - just sprinkled a layer on top. Not that deep either - here is my other tub. It is less far along than the first I showed pics of. Also, no one has yet to comment on whether this growth after 8 days is slow or not. The only comparison I have is to when the substrate colonized, and that was 50x faster.

Just fruit it. I don't bother to colonize casing layers at all. Either it's just done eating and will pin soon or it won't. But certainly it's not doing anything more without fruiting conditions. So fruit it.
