What's the earliest I can get out there in the UK?
    #23369344 - 06/22/16 08:37 AM (7 years, 7 months ago)

After having an amazing first mushroom season last year and learning how to find and identify them without the help of my friends, I am anxious to go out hunting and I'm counting the days to Autumn.

I live not too far from the Pennine mountain range so it's pretty easy for me to get up to some relatively high elevations where I had the best luck last year. Bearing this in mind, what do you think is the earliest date that the liberty caps will start to pop up at these higher altitudes, considering the weather as a factor, suggesting that I go out foraging when conditions are ideal.

I've been on a few walks, fields are full of pan foes but no libs yet. Still possible to get pan cincs and psilocybe cyans around this time though.

Would it make sense to look for libs(at this time of the year) at heigher altitudes(~1800m), where it's colder and rains more ?

P. cinctulus, yes, but Psilocybe cyanescens sounds doubtful at the moment.

Best i've ever managed for libs was 1st Aug. That was at a decent altitude, fairly north and on the coast. It depends on the temps really. Keep a watch for steady 5c-15c and you've a chance. Nothing to lose going for a wander. It's been a warmer summer than last year though.

I found my first lib last year on 3rd of June, but that was a f**ked up season.
