Newb looking for reassurance

So this is my first time growing, and I decided to go with a starter kit that included 12 1/2 pint jars. To this point I have been lurking on this site to get me as far as I am. I successfully colonized all 12 jars with no contams, of which 2 are still colonizing and the other 10 were birthed 5 days ago. I'm using a fc with 3" of perilite and a small air pump with hepa hose conected to a timer set at 1 hour on/1 hour off intervals. Temp is at 74 f and humidity is around 90-100%. Just starting to see pins from one cake, however the rest are still not doing much. I'm guessing I need to be patient. I was wondering if these are aborts and should be picked, or if I can let them ride? Any advice helps. I love this site.

Air pumps are not for growing mushrooms. They put them in kits to burn noobs out of more $$

Throw away the air pump. Drill 1/4 inch holes on all Six sides in a 2 inch grid pattern.

yup. There's minimal air exchange in there. It looks like you've been reading outdate information. You can filter your searches from 3-5 years and even click the Trusted Cultivator box to get the best info from the professionals.
Make yourself a proper shotgun fruiting chamber (SGFC). 1/4" holes, 2 inches apart, on all 6 sides of the chamber. You wont find a cheaper, easier, or more effective fruiting chamber. Those are a bit crowded as well which will reduce fresh air coming in through the bottom holes.
Also, you don't want to keep the humidity at 95-100% all the time. letting it drop will increase evaporation which is a pinning trigger. just mist them when the look dry and don't worry about measuring your RH. Your cakes look great though! Good luck!

Air exchange is inadequate from the pump. Humidity can be as low as 50% regularly and you won't get cracked caps. Humidity is basically unimportant with cakes if you build a SGFC and live in 99% of places.

With enough fanning, and leaving the pump on, can I finish out this grow? I don't want to start messing with the fc till I'm finished. If at all possible.

of course you CAN, but without ideal conditions you wont end up with many mushrooms to show for the work you put in...

Why does an air pump not do anything? It seems like it would ciculate out the co2 with fresh o2. But everyone seems to deem it worthless. Why is that?

It simply doesn't do nearly as efficient of a job at that as a SGFC. Why reinvent the wheel when you can stand on the shoulders of giants?
What I mean is, we learn from the experience of many who have come before us, who learned that air pumps work like shit, lol, and there are better ways. No one is saying you wont get a few shrooms. We're just saying if you do it right you will get much better results!
Think about it. One little air pump... or a crap ton of 1/4" holes on all six sides. What do you think will give you better fresh air exchange?

Thanks for the help. I put holes in it as soon as I got the feedback. Would it hurt if I left the pump in anyways? Otherwise I'll just toss it.

I don't see how it could hurt anything. Remember to mist when they get dry and good luck!

Don't give advice if you think like that. Air pumps have no place in mycology.

im with this guy. take the air pump out and make it a proper SGFC elevated slightly off the ground using pint jars or similar. you want airflow from ALL sides, including the bottom.

He already made it a SGFC. I didn't give advice I said I didn't know how it would hurt. I don't use air pumps, I don't recommend people use air pumps.
If you think it's harmful in this case besides being a waste of electricity then please explain instead of just being condescending. If you just want me to get on board with standardization then no problem, next time I'll just say throw it away.
