Hi all,
I've been trying to ID some mushies that have popped up in my yard. I can't seem to find an adequate picture of them anywhere or a complete description that fits them We have a steer (cow), which is why I'm asking.... If you can help, that would be fab!!
Found in Upper Hunter Valley, NSW The cap is thin flesh, tan at the top going down to like a cream/grey. The stem is relatively long, white/cream. The gills are a dark brown, almost black colour, free and appear to be even. Spore print didn't come out so well, due to mushie going mushy but, colour is almost black.
I've taken some photo's if that will help?
Thanks kindly for any help

these are not Coprinellus micaeus. They are in the same general group of fungi though - the coprinoid fungi.
Your mushroom turned to mush because it is autodigesting itself and turning into ink, hence the common name inky caps. This process is called deliquescence.
I think they are something close to Coprinopsis cinerea

Thanks leschampignons! I'm always interested in finding out what weeds and fungi we have growing on our little hobby farm Even more so if they are of the useable/edible variety lol

Sorry if this is taking advantage of everyone's extensive knowledge of mushrooms but, who better to ask?

Can you do a spore print on this one? Also was the habitat grass? I think it might be the toxic Chlorophyllum molybdites.

The habitat was in leaf mulch/loose soil under a jacaranda tree. I've had the cap sitting on a piece of paper towel over night and there's only a small orange-ish mark left behind.

I saw these while on a hike by a dead tree and was wondering if I stumbled uptown some gold or poison.
Input would greatly help.

Hi Carter, I'm not even remotely the best person to ask but, they look a bit like the coprinellus micaceus at the top of the thread. Hopefully one of the Master Mushies can help us both out with our enquiries

Not sure on these two, but if I were to guess I'd say galerina and pluteus. I don't think I've ever seen pluteus on grass though. Maybe it is something closely related, or growing from terrestrial wood.
Carter you have some variety of coprinoid mushrooms. Looks like coprinellus micaeus group in the 1st and 3rd pics and coprinellus dissemenatus in the second pic.

Oh and the little mush was all by itself. Just growing in the grass. Where I found it, the ground had all been previously stripped back when the railway came through and used the area as a turn out for their trucks. So, no wood there

Pixle85's 2nd mushroom might be entoloma. It would be better to start a new thread for each request.
