OP, starter's are very very easy to change, especially in Jap cars. don't sweat it... pull up a youtube video and get to work. That's what I did on my mitsubishi... although i also had to check with the Factory Service Manual.

Don't worry about pattern parts, they're fine. Genuine Honda parts a very expensive anyway. And I wouldn't advise rebuilding if you're weary about just replacing.

It will only destroy what you are not.

I wouldn't even bother rebuilding it, they are just too easy to buy a new one complete and know it works. I think you can even get a core charge for the old one...

I found cheap no name starters for around $60-80 on ebay

Should I worry about putting a cheap no name starter in my car? Does anyone have experience rebuilding a starter? I read you can sometimes just replace the solenoid or brushes inside. At $60 for a brand new starter though hard to beat that.

Buying a generic model is risky as u dont know the quality of the parts inisde the starter. I would get the most expensive generic if possible.

Its better than your original thats dieing

I would not bother rebuilding it, just buy a new one.

duralast makes quality parts. DO NOT ORDER ONLINE. it just complicates things, go to Autozone or Advance Auto Parts. if it goes bad, they have your info on file and you can switch it out for a new part.
