Suggestions for CPU fan
    #23362208 - 06/19/16 10:23 PM (7 years, 8 months ago)

Can any one recommend a good cpu fan? My cpu is Intel Core i7 4771. The stock fan is absolute garbage and the temp will not drop below 210°F I need something that will keep my cpu cool in this hot apartment.

What case do you have?

If your case can support it, I would recommend an all-in-one CPU watercooler like the Corsair H80i

As for air cooling some of the top ones right now are:
Noctua NH-D14

Be Quiet! Dark Rock 3

Noctua i4

Deepcool Gammaxx 400

Noctua NH-U12S

whilst I to recommend the noctua series of heatsink fans one that's often overlooked for price and performance is the Artic Freezer pro. In the UK, it's £15 and comes with a layer of thermal grease pre installed.

To fully remove the thermal grease on your CPU when swapping them over, I'd reccomend methylated spirits, rubbing alcohol, or something called TIMclean which smells like orange oil.

I use this beast. Would recommend over many or even most water cooling, especially if you don't want to deal with the hassle.

Even a budget cooler like the Hyper 212 EVO will show a drastic difference.

Yes it will indeed. The stock Intel coolers are garbage for the most part. Well, any stock CPU cooler really.

Those Hyper 212 Evos are cheap and get the job done.. but they are kind of a bitch to install compared to most coolers.
I've installed probably 15-20 of them into client's PCs.. they are decent but kind of a pain to install right and I've been building PCs for years and years. So I would probably recommend something else.

Im probably going to get that one. I'm pretty good at building computers. I've built a few. It looks simple enough. If not, there are always youtube vids

Thanks for all the replies folks. I've decided on getting Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO mainly because its affordable. I also have to buy a new a/c which pretty much cleaned out my bank account.

the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO has good reviews. Will post an update with pictures of my temps and the differences between my stock cpu cooler and this one.

Huh, it's good, not spectacular, but it's a step in the right direction.

Still, artic freezer pro. It's a lovely cheap HSF. But, if you're spending £200+ for an intel I7 processor then spending over 50 quid on a noctua massive 14cm cooler is not that big a deal.
And they do look rite tasty.

Lots replies with fan suggestions... But I question the overheating to begin with.  A CPU with a stock cooler should not overheat, even in a hot apartment.  Is the CPU overclocked?  Are you running CPU intensive applications?  If the answer to each of these is no then my first suggestion would be to clean the thermal compound off the heatsink and CPU and reapply and reinstall.

Im pretty computer savvy. I read reviews online for my cpu and yes the stock fan is insufficient for the cpu. I'm not the only one that has this problem. Practically everyone who bought it had the same problem. Maybe research something before assuming I wouldnt know how to clean the fan, apply thermal paste and reseat it on the cpu.

Cool.. yeah I'm not saying it's exactly hard to install.. just can be a little tricky compared to others on the market.
Mainly just due to the way you have to align the backplate with the top plate and get the bolts in initiallly
But yeah it's a decent all around cooler and for the price you can't beat it.
