Fruiting Conditions- Before vs. After Colonization
    #23366037 - 06/21/16 07:39 AM (7 years, 8 months ago)

Am wondering if any of you have had the same experience.  Lately, I have noticed when I mix my spawn into my substrate, I have had contradictory results.

1. I mix my spawn and substrate and wait for it to colonize the substrate completely and then I put into FC.  Most of the time it gets contaminated for me.

2. I mix my spawn and substrate and Immediately put it into FC.  Check daily and mist as neccesary.  No contaminations at all.

Does anybody introduce FC immediately after mixing there spawn and substrate, and what is your experience with contams.

I've only done bulk grows once and I kept it in fruiting conditions the whole time...except I used really tight polyfill during the colonizing stage and then thinned out the poly when it was time to fruit.

I was going to use tape like normal on my next grow but after reading this I might just stick with what I was doing. But I had pretty good grows with keeping it in FC the whole time.

Monotubs/rye berries/coir Tek

^ if any of that matters on the methods I use.

--------------------
How to get started in bulk:
Presto 23-Quart Pressure Cooker
BOD's Simple as FUCK Still Air Box
PastyWhyte's Easy Agar Tek
Munchauzen's Cultivation Video Series
How EvilMushroom666 Prepares His Grains (I use jars with Synthetic Filter Discs)
What is G2G? (Grain-to-Grain)
Damion5050's Coir Tek (I use 5.5 - 6 quarts of water instead of 4. Also ignore step 13 and ignore the monotub completely. The only purpose of this tek is to show you how to make a simple substrate. I also add gypsum to it but not necessary)
Spitball's Monotub Tek (A liner isn't necessary but is useful)
Use 6500k lights throughout the whole process. When you wake up, turn the light on. When you go to sleep turn the light off. It's as simple as that.

My last tub, doing PF to bulk, I put in the tub, let it colonize, then made the holes. Got a MUCH better pinset, and the largest fruited I've gotten. Usually I go straight to fruiting. Experimenting and letting recolonize before fruiting, is the way to go IMO.

contamination so early comes from contamed spawn. Both methods works just fine with healthy spawn.

I use the bucket tek to pasteurize and hydrate my sub which consists of coir verm and gypsum.  I wipe out my tub with 70℅ rubbing alhohol, and throw a liner down, tape the holespour most of the sub in the tub and mix in my spawn evenly then cover with a light layer of the remaining sub to avoid exposed grains.  If not they MIGHT dry out and become a vector for contams.
I just put the lid on when I'm done and let it sit somewhere and check on it in about two weeks.  If I see

Knots I introduce into fruiting.  If not I leave it alone.  I usually don't get contams until after the second flush

There is a link between high CO2 build up and contamination due to inadequate GE. If putting in FC at spawning works for you, then you should do it. But, you may be able to just increase GE as well, so you don't have to mist as much.

All my tubs went south and I was down to 2 jars left of spawn.  I thought all my jars were contaminated, so I was like "fuck it" let my try something different with my last 2 jars of spawn.

I took those last 2 jars and mixed them in with poo (black kow), no pasteurization whatsoever and put it straight into fruiting conditions.  I Would check daily and misted as needed.

Check it out

if that's how you like to treat your grain spawn no wonder you're seeing lots of contams, I wonder what else little things you may have done to get so many contamed jars..

Irronically, I have been doing EVERYTHING by the book, I will still getting contams?

And now that I thought my spawn was already ruined with contams, I do some "off the wall" shit and theyre going good.

Maybe you're reading the wrong books.
