PC Barely Reaching 15psi

I suspect my new stove is a shitty, underpowered unit. Its one of the ceramic burner types. My PC struggles to attain min steri pressure. The Cooker is brand new, so I don`t think the gauge is faulty- although, I have nothing solid to back that belief up with. Maybe I need a good, strong hot plate. Anybody had a similar issue?

One of my PC's only gets to 10.5 psi and I use it for rye grain without problems. Once I hit pressure I maintain for 90 min. Before I bought my 23 at presto I used this for at least a year and haven't seen a contam yet.
When I prepare rye I also rinse at least three times before and after the boil.
Are you using a stove or a portable burner?
I use a gas stove.

Is the rocker rocking on your PC? I once had a Presto that had a broken gauge out of the box that would only read up to 7 psi, but as long as the rocker was rocking it was at 15psi.
Need to be careful if it your stove is a glass top, those aren't supposed to have the heat and weight of a pressure cooker on them.
There are plenty of good burner alternatives out there if you think that's your issue. I have used a few different kinds over the years... propane works good, electric hot plates work if you buy a good one. Sometimes you can find used AA25X electric sterilizers on eBay for around $250-300 - those have been my favorite

Nvm, you use a ceramic stove. Is that the kind with the glass top? Those things suck and you shouldn't use a PC on it. Worst case get a portable electric or gas stove from Walmart. Works fine

Op I apologize in advance for this derailment... But you are saying you grew mushrooms for an entire year and never saw a contam?

That's right! My tubs cantam after the second flush but that's it. Its never mold either just the bacillus bacteria. My jars have always been good. Even with the occasional g2g without any protection but Lysol and alcohol. I'm not saying I never had a jar contam before, but its been a long time and it was when I first started. My main point is that less than 15 PSI is not a deal breaker. Just PC longer (me, 10.5 psi at 90 min). This guy is concerned that his PC isn't staying at 15 psi for the entire duration. Even if his 15 lb weight is barely wobling he should be OK. I have had good results with less than his problems, and even RR says that 10 psi is OK. He simply suggests two hours in the PC, which I have never done. 90min tops.
I prepare my rye according to RR's video, except I rinse after the soak at least three times.

Oh and I don't rince after the boil, like I said in my first post. I meant rinse. The boil produces steam which evaporates off the surface of the grains and helps dry the outside before I load in jars

I have a pressure cooker that likes to exceed 60 psi, pop the gasket and explode boiling water and scalding steam in every direction....
It's free, you pay the s+h
If your stove can bring water to a boil it's not the stoves fault... you should leave the lid off....bring the water to a boil, place the lid on until a steady flow of steam is escaping the valve and then set the weight on (if it's a jiggle weight) reduce to medium-low and it should jiggle and release steam every 30-60seconds if it's a weight set for 15 psi it's at 15 psi. ... don't hurt yourself.

Low-end apartment stove with ceramic burner. The biggest burners are least 4in diameter smaller than my 23qt Presto.

My rocker weight certainly rocks faster than once or twice every 30 seconds. More like a Meth users heartbeat.

Go by the rocker, not the gauge, you'll end up boiling it dry. Brand new AA's gauge are often off a pound or two. As Hybridprx said if a 15 psi weight is giggling once or twice a min it's at 15 psi.

Sounds like a simple vent pipe clog problem. Got a wire coat hanger nearby? Abort that clog!!!!

My 23q Presto doesn't hit 15psi unless I weigh down the rocker. I use a salsa lid inside a wide mouth jar lid sitting on top.
Once you get to 18 or so, just get the heat steady. It doesn't vent much at that point, so keep an eye at stable temp for 20min or so

It's not a clog....I did that the first time during the (milder) steam explosion... I won't use it after the latest water/steam explosion....the lid is warped and wobbles when locked in which is a sign the metal warped and is causing a imbalance in internal pressure causing the lid to explode off in a specific area.... very scary stuff when it happens.
