Portable AC compressor problem

About 8 months ago I purchased a portable ac unit. The manufacturer went out of business before I purchased it. I did not know this at the time. It's worked fine up until this heat wave hi socal a few days ago.
Problem: The compressor will run for about 10 minutes then shuts off. I have to unplug it and let it sit for about a half an hour before I hear the compressor click which means i can plug it back in and it will work for another ten minutes before shutting off. During this time, the fan continues to blow until unplugged. The copper coils don't get cold. There is no condensation build up. I unplugged the drainage pipe and it was dry as a bone. Before I take it apart i want to find out what the issue is and get the parts i need for it.
Any help is appreciated.

Sounds like the internal overload (temperature) on the compressor. If it's hot you'll know for sure. The lack of cold coils and the compressor short cycling due to the high limit makes me think you're out of refrigerant or you have refrigerant but your compressors internal valves are fucked and can't cycle it.
Both of these things would cost you as much if not more than a new unit. Maybe in the future you'll make better decisions regarding your comfort.Either way you're fucked since the manufacturer is out of business.

I figured as much. I think i'll invest in a window mounted ac. I've never had a problem with those

I went ahead a purchased a cheap window mounted unit which has been working fine. I purchased the 2 year warranty plan so I hope I wont have this problem again.
