Seems like the right forum on the interwebz for this. What are some things that blow your mind? Let's hear it…
"It has been estimated that 99.9% of all species that have ever lived on Earth are now extinct." http://paleobiology.si.edu/geotime/main/foundation_life4.html
"But more likely, there are 5 to 10 times more stars than there are grains of sand on all the world's beaches." http://www.universetoday.com/106725/are-there-more-grains-of-sand-than-stars/

With all those grains of sand there must be intelligent life on some of them.

My actual appearance.
Cerealously, it is a Tardigrade or Water Bear; tiny critters that can grow up to a whopping 0.5 mm long!

They aren't very scary because they are so small.

Fuck me, good choice for something that blows your mind OC, these things are hardcore:
Quote:
Tardigrades are notable for being perhaps the most durable of known organisms: they can survive extreme conditions that would be rapidly fatal to nearly all other known life forms. They can withstand temperature ranges from 1 K (−458 °F; −272 °C) to about 420 K (300 °F; 150 °C),[7] pressures about six times greater than those found in the deepest ocean trenches, ionizing radiation at doses hundreds of times higher than the lethal dose for a human, and the vacuum of outer space.[8] They can go without food or water for more than 30 years, drying out to the point where they are 3% or less water, only to rehydrate, forage, and reproduce.[3][9][10][11]
I have to admit, things that blow my mind are a little more elementary. Like why people spend so much time watching shit on television, believe all the media hype they're fed, or why they (generally) act so shitty towards one another...

Something that blows my mind is why people don't kill politicians, bosses, parents and other abusers more often. For the most part humans just bite the pillow when they get abused, or abuse someone else rather than get righteous revenge.
The degree to which we just take it up the arse blows my mind.

Space blows my mind. Two possibilities exist.. space is either infinite or it ends somewhere. If it is infinite, what the fuck. If it's not, what's at the end? and what's outside of that? it's like people forget that this shit is real and that we're stuck to a rock flying through it right now. You think of the ground beneath us as the very bottom or a solid foundation, when really we are surrounded by infinity in every direction.
People also don't seem to understand the true meaning or the gravity of the word infinity. If space really is infinite, that means that every single crazy scenario you can think of, every planet, every organism, literally everything you can dream of actually exists somewhere out there.
Basically our existence as a whole blows my mind. What the fuck is this really? where did all this come from? when did it begin? what happens after death? people have become so desensitized to this way of thinking, when in the grand scheme of things we have no fucking idea what we're doing or why we're here.

Concerning Everyday Bullshit:
It blows my mind how we continuously place ourselves in the victim's role, spitting apologies and explanations once a mistake is made by us - but - continue to carelessly judge and ridicule others for their mishaps.
Also, how we summarize a complex, emotional human being, just like ourselves, into a single, horrid, solidified statue, and cannot comprehend that the person is capable of more, or change, or just maybe, perceiving the person being like ourselves and realizing - that we would have acted the exact same way, if we were under the strain of particular contextual influences.
Also, how we gossip and sneer with a sense of entitlement and enjoyment, and forcefully and violently bite back when it is done to us.
AND! How I do this on a daily basis. I'm a hypocrite. Can't help it. Just an animal some days.
Lastly, my hands blow my mind - from time to time.

"forgiveness and love" be gone!
We want DRAMA
That's why total acceptance is so challenging.
To give up the drama is more difficult than giving up heroin.

Here is something that I bet you never thought of.
Stare straight ahead at some object. Now scan around the room and back. Our eyes and head are always moving, even when staring straight ahead, and the eye muscles are twitching slightly, yet the picture we get in our brain is miraculously stable with no jitter!
Pretty amazing processing.

I'm amazed at Eclipses. The fact that our planet is x far away from the moon and the moon is x in size to create perfect eclipses...same with sun. It almost like they were put there size, distance, place, on purpose.

I like this fact. But I realize that when I read it I think of extinct as dying off. But I know that humans evolved from an ancestor that is now extinct. All life on earth has. So I know that some species go extinct not because they die off, but because they evolve into another species. How many of that 99.9% straight up died off vs how many evolved into something else? I would assume that most died off rather than evolving.... But I am curious what that number would be. I've never seen it or heard of it.
