Any advice or suggestions?
I've always been enamored with the game from a young age, I think itd be fun, I also think I have the potential to win. Perhaps its naivety?
Hello! Yes - you came to the right place.
I can share pretty much anything you'd want to know about poker. I do recommend you read at least one or two books before playing. I waaay-over prepared, when I began. I read through over 10 books and many dozens of articles, (mostly all by Mike Caro), before I ever set foot in a casino.
Then, I played, and after a few times, was able to win while playing -- so even with some study, it takes some practice.
But after time, if you put in some dedicated and real effort, - generally, just keep seeking to improve -- find the balance, the winning place, for you -- and stay there, and dove-tail more of your life to keep in that mode. . .
Small advantages add up -- so, perfect health from eating well, etc. - that is one small one --
Or, being fresh from being physically fit -- but, make no mistake, poker is -- it includes the physical, but it is largely mental,
or psycho - logical , or , rather, psycho - spiritual or what have you. I guess -- it is enough to say it is mental or in the mind -- (just see. Doyle Brunson)
by this, i mean one of the key characteristics is concentration -- as well as alertness, memory - perceptiveness --
all of these things -- you see where i'm going. Peacefulness, Relaxed, Strength (physical and mentally) , etc. . .
anyway i'm writing enough by now ;p hehe . so, any questions I can ( ((((((((((( probably )))))))))))) help out with.
for books, I read the best 50-60 , and a couple or few hundred articles by Mike Caro ( he's one of the best ), and, most of the books twice etc. . .
also practiced a lot of auxiliary skills . . . and what not. Meditation is also good - and writing, music, art -- because certainly all of these go into the 'perfect' style, which is a blend of lots of different things.
tough playing, but totally relaxed and friendly etc. . . - happy, pleasant, easy to be around -- these are
high, top notch, qualities -- because these, make people want to play with you - which, is pretty much the main thing. .
so therefore, a demeanor -- whatever one's personality version of, etc - but a few things --
sincere, light-hearted, friendly, easy-going but respectful, quiet when others would probably wish it -- engaging --
etc., -- and the main thing, is no dark mood about the game etc ;p -- hehe . if you can eliminate that completely -- well it's a big thing
(and of course, this kind of thing is where poker and life run hand-in-hand)
and as well as -- when someone plays poker, it reveals one's character, really does this. . .
(and thus-- it can be a wonderful source of info for growth ) secondly, and tying into this, is the fact that all of one's actions --
One's decisions - are resulted in almost immediate feedback -- of results.
This basically translates as a denser field for the activities of life -- and yes, this does play out more.
In other words - it's like -- well, you'll see what I mean, sometime, I'm sure, if you stick with it.
Best of luck, and hope you have fun -- "Play happy or don't play" - Roy West
