Are these what I'm looking for?
    #23362765 - 06/20/16 03:53 AM (7 years, 7 months ago)

Hey everyone!

So I was on a retreat up in the bush in NZ, and I stumbled across an old tree stump with some mushrooms growing on them. There was a book on fungi of NZ at the library and the picture of psilocybin subaeruginosa matched exactly what I saw.
I picked a bunch off the stump and stored them in a box I happened to have in my car.
My question is, are these psilocybin subaeruginosa, and if so, are they still OK to eat?

Those aren't Psilocybe subaeruginosa, don't eat them.

Really. I can see how why you would think they look similar, but it's pretty superficial. The mushrooms you're holding are much, much tinier, for a start. P. subaeruginosa are quite robust and meaty. Also, there's zero blue bruising on any of them.

Don't be too discouraged. People have spent years trying to find their first Psilocybe.

Your mushrooms look like a Hypholoma sp.

Check out the NZ actives thread. Pay attention to habitats that people post their shots in, or around which kinds of wood and what to avoid etc. Just reading the thread is a well of knowledge and pay attention to the things surrounding the mushrooms, or even how daylight hits it.

When you find a mushroom, get a photo of it in the best lighting. Habitat shots, clear gill shots, the stem etc. Perform a spore print and bring that info here and you'll get all the help you need. These are some good people here.
