I was at the range yesterday and this dude was shooting a crazy loud round every 6th shot on his double action revolver. like the concussion was startling if you were in the room.
I went over to check the thing out and the guy loads up a few rounds for me. Total wild west gun, thing looked amazing. He puts a 5"x5" target about 50 feet out and im like ummmm I dont shoot half that far out or on that small of a target but hey this guy is being super cool ill give it a go. I cock the hammer and BARELY TOUCH the trigger 'BOOOOOOOOOOOOOM'
holy shit, maybe I was too antsy - I was just trying to Find the trigger. at least I hit the paper, and the guy is like 'youre a little high son'
so im like ok its a hair trigger I will aim first and then BARELY move my finger to feel the trigger to get my grip on it. 'BOOOOOOOOOOOM' - Fucking A that thing is sensitive. Hit closer to bullseye though. The last round is the loud one and hes like yeah you wanna prepare for this. Im like I dont know how I breathe in and this thing shoots. but fuckit, cock back, "BLAAAAAAAAMOOOOOOOOOOO" concussion round. I didnt even really feel it, but it hit the closest to the target. Im like wow, Nice gun sir. Shook his hand and walked away.

Quite the opposite, actually. It's a bit big for me. There's no way for me to totally conceal it.

My favorite to shoot so far was one of these two (can't decide)

M1 is so far the biggest thing I've shot as far as power/recoil goes (aside from shotguns) and I was pretty blown away by it's power. It just feels really awesome to pull the trigger and feel all that power. The Sterling just felt really cool to shoot. It's "springy" feeling. It's not as crisp or snappy feeling as every other gun I've shot. You can feel the recoil but it's not abrupt or whatever. I want to own my own of both.

I have a gun because I like being able to protect myself, my friends and family, and even strangers. With over a thousand hours (easily) of range time I feel competent in my firearms abilities and threat recognition. Some guy tried to pull a knife on me as I was exiting autozone and I drew, but did not fire -- nore did I even file a police report . In that particular case, I was extremely glad i had a gun on me because this was a rough part of town (they found a body in a motel wall a la "The tell tale heart".
I do believe people should go through at least one hundred hours of firearms training (covering the legal aspects of gun ownership, and plenty of range time to be sure the shooter is competent their use of their weapon).
As far as assault rifles goes, much more caution should be exercised when selling a portable killing machine to someone without a psych eval... I mean what the fuck? A borderline personality disorder muslim with ties to terrorism is allowed to buy a full fucking loadout? What the fucking fuck?
I say this as someone who owns pistols and rifles, but shit needs to change man. People should should still be able to buy assault rifles and handguns, but there should be a far more intensive background check -- much like the one needed to buy automatic firearms and suppressors.

Background checks are actually pretty thorough. Lots of law abiding citizens are being denied for various bullshit reasons as it is, making them more thorough will just prevent more citizens from owning guns and do nothing to keep them out of the hands of criminals. Do you really think the orlando shooter would not have shot up that nightclub if he was unable to legally purchase a rifle? Also one of the gun shops he went to denied him a rifle and called the FBI weeks before the shooting. The FBI did not even visit them or do anything even remotely useful.

This, the FBI knew about this guy, was warned he was trying to buy suspicious shit, was told he made terroristic threats his coworkers and even mentioned ISIS and they did NOTHING!
But yeah, let's take guns away from all the non violent law abiding citizens becuase the Obama admin and FBI is too fucking scared of offending people to do their fucking job

What's the intended use? I don't have enough experience to really give any but I know that answer is going to vary wildly depending on what she intends to do with it.
If I were gonna buy a revolver, it'd be a S&W 686. I've had my eye on one for a long time now.

To carry or just as a range toy/home defense?
For the latter, the smith wesson 686 is a beatiful gun. Shoots 38 special and 357 and is accurate and light recoiling.
For smaller gun check out the s&w 442/642 or ruger lcr. They conceal pretty easily but smaller guns recoil more and are harder to shoot.

Easily concealable, enough stopping power and not that much recoil. I would recommend against a revolver as a first time handgun.

He told me what it was, but it was loud, I think he said it was from the 1950s, but it looked almost exactly like this, which is certainly older. It had a loading gate on the right side which I thought was just so cool! It was well oiled, and was really a pleasure to shoot. I totally hear you man, revolvers are wonderful weapons, though I am not complaining about my Glock 9mm
