I'm also pretty skeptical of this claim. What is nestle doing with this water?
Bottling it and selling it. Some to other states with plenty of water. Some overseas. Some in our own state.
80 million gallons is a lot when your state is in the most severe drought ever on record. And that's just one of the aquifers. They are tapped into multiple. Not to mention their permit to do so expired in 1988. Also they were only paying $524/year to do so.

In the whole scheme of things it's not a lot of water if the water is being consumed in the state, but you're right it doesn't make sense, if they want to bottle water in the state, they should pay the rate anyone else would. Considering the situation, they should only be allowed to bottle water that is sold in the state. Are they really bottling water in California to be sold in Washington state or even the east coast?

I heard some carwash places have reusable water. Thats pretty cool. Next time my car gets washed is when it rains. I will be out there scrubbing it down with a soapy sponge.
Speaking of severe drought, anyone here invest in water rights stocks?? I have really wanted to but have no idea what to invest in. Apparently the dude who predicted the housing crash of 2008 loaded up on water stocks. Any idea how to look at someones portfolio?

Is that even English?
The midwest only grows bullshit like corn and soybeans now anyways.
The west coast is the most agriculturally productive region in the country.
We grow more than enough food for self-sufficiency.
Michigan is one of the largest produces of fruit. Cherries blueberry strawberries I could go on. While the northern most parts of the Midwest produces feed crops I bet you still eat beef pork or chicken . Without mass draining of your dwindling water reserves . The west coast doesn't produce nearly enough water. Unless we use desalination of sea water.

The water problems are with the desert areas of AZ/So Cal and NV.... those aren't the places I'm talking about. I don't think 20 million people in the desert is a good idea at all The region from central ca to wa, between the coast and the cascade mountains is the most productive region in the whole country, and has pretty gratuitous sources of water.
My whole point is that its self sufficient.. my point isn't the midwest produces no agriculture

Shipping water has got to be the stupidest idea ever invented. It's a natural resource nearly everywhere on the planet. Apparently Fiji bottled water is actually shipped from Fiji. Mind bogglingly stupid. The value of the water is minuscule compared to the cost of the energy required to move it around the world in a bottle

Yeah, the amount of flouride and chlorine they pump in it down there is gnarly. If you don't have one of those cheap brittas or a real filter you're kinda fucked.
lately I've been filling up spring water by the jug and bringing that home though. It's next level man. the living water is so bomb

I was recently reading reviews with all those filters and I found a lot of info proving how bullshit they are and mostly a placebo effect. Those activated charcoal brita filters dont even remove fluoride.
Im sorta to the point where I know everything is horrible, everything kills me, so what the fuck ever.

yeah, they mostly pull bigger particles but leave chemicals.
back in the days of the grow room I had a bad ass reverse osmosis system that we'd fill up from, but I don't ball out like that anymore. luckily i live where the water is good out of the tap.
I'll ship you some brah

they should have started building those desalination plants 15 years ago befoe the drought started, of course if they had them they'd be paying more than the cost of gas for water. again, it serves them right
And meanwhile Nestle continues to pump 80+ million gallons of water a year out of our aquifers to sell
That is so bizarre. Last year I looked at a bottle of Royal Farms water in Baltimore ...the label said it was bottled in Chatsworth, Ca....right in the middle of a nasty drought.
