Fishing Out?

Is so weird! I could take like 5-6 nitrous hits in a row without the use of other substances and be fine. 1-2 on acid and I fish out.
It's like reality opens up at a spot in the corner of my upper eye. My head contorts back and my eyes roll back. I feel as if I had to fight to get myself "back here." Everything is pulled into this tunnel and I end up on the floor just dead staring at this never-ending tunnel.
It's freaky, is that what fishing out even is?

Nitrous is a dissociative anesthetic. Strong enough dose, and you lose all connection with your body. That's what fishing out is; specifically when one is standing or sitting unsupported & they just drop & flop cause they're gone-zo.

A friend fished out once and while he was fishing he danced around like a chicken, fell down gracefully then came back to reality unawares of his debauchery

I've read it's because the brain is losing oxygen so fast but the body doesn't detect it because CO2 is still leaving the cells as if exhalation is happening due to how the NO2 interacts with the body chemistry.
So does that mean it's like almost dying?

I have never fished out even when binging nitrous fairly hard, I have seen some people do it though.
Once I almost took a dive at a festial after hitting a balloon on mushrooms but I just fell back a little and caught myself.

A friend had a grandfather that was a dentist and he had passed recently and my friend acquired a giant cylinder of nitrous, i witnesses several people fish out and several just flat out passed out with the gas still flowing. That was one crazy day!!!

If you are breathing an atmosphere devoid of oxygen then you will pass out without warning. The sense of suffocation comes from the build up of CO2. If you are exhaling CO2 without inhaling oxygen, you have about 15 seconds before you are unconscious. Assuming when you pass out you are no longer breathing 100% N2O, you will regain consciousness after you take a few normal breaths. Many people have myoclonic jerks that look similar to seizures if they pass out due to lack of oxygen.

I would generally take a big hit of a single canister, leave enough room for some breath of air, then hold for as long as I could.
When that "tunnel" opened up my eyes would stay wide open and then would roll back into my head to "follow" this tunnel as much as I could. I was then able to breathe but my body jerked around.
I can't determine what had happeened. Though I'm wondering if I really was that close to death. My friends would keep screaming for me to come back. I could still hear them and this tunnel was just wicked weird. I could hear them but had no control over my bodily movements. I would even feel like I lost the ability to breathe.
Thanks for the info koods

None of what I said applies if you are simply holding your breath. Even if you are inhale 100% N2O, there is quite a lot of residual oxygen in your lungs after exhaling once. It really requires normal breathing of gases lacking oxygen for you to pass out without warning. probably the most dangerous activity involving N2O would be wearing a mask where you could breath in pure N2O and exhale normally. Rebreathing a ballon filled with N2O would be a close second.

I fished out on lot in front of like 200 people once lol. Everyone saw it, I fell hard too, like directly on my face. It's like yeah, I'm spun. I got some serious road rash on my face and a super fat lip, so for the next week or 2 I had to come up with all these stories to tell people what happened because "I was doing nitrous and fished out and landed splat on the asphalt" isn't exactly an acceptable answer to give everyone lol
Good times
We brought a 50lb tank with us to our last festival. Ahhhh so much fun
