Can I sterilize and reuse failed grain?

So I have two three lb. spawn bags which have been incubating for three weeks and there is absolutely NO sign of colonization on either. I'm pretty positive that the syringe must have been bad. Can I put this grain into jars, sterilize in pc, and reuse it? Someone has to of experimented with this before but I could find nothing on the topic. Thank you all for your dedication of passing mycological knowledge on!!! I'm fairly new to cultivation but have learned more than I thought there was to know already. And am absolutely anxious to learn the most I can

If in doubt throw it out, grain isn't exactly expensive....

People have but it presents a few issues. The biggest one in my mind is that the moisture content is going to end up off. While grains can withstand being cycled twice, they will have slowly been drying out for 3 weeks in the bag and may end up too dry.

I have recently done just that. I had a bag of rye berries that had been floating around for 3 years. I had tried 3 years ago to inoculate it with a syringe that I was pretty sure was fried. I didn't store it properly and it overheated. Anyway last week, 6/12 I decided to experiment a bit with a fully colonized bag I had. What I did...
Opened the old grain bag and put it in a big pot. I poured water on it while mixing it up until there was about 1/4" of water on the bottom of the pot. I heated the grain, stirring occasionally, until it reached 180F. I then drained the excess water pushing the grain down with a big spoon. I put the lid on the pot, turned the stove to low, and kept it at temp for 15 minutes. While it was still hot I poured it back into the bag. I sealed the bag with a clip and let cool on the counter until room temp.
Then in a fairly sterile environment I took a few chunks of the colonized spawn and mixed it into the new bag. Closed the bag with tape and put it into my spawning chamber. This is what it looks like after 6 days. (I used the rest of the spawn to go to bulk substrate)

Yeah, it may be. I was just noting that it can be done, and how I did it. If the bag is infected I would think it's because of my method in preparing the spawn bag.
I'm new to this and have already learned a lot and changed many of my methods in a pretty short amount of time. Some have worked. Some haven't but I'm enjoying the learning experience!
I've just prepared some sawdust spawn bags for edibles in a more sterile environment. I'll know soon if my new methods are better.

i only have ONE similar experience, and it has to do with old grains i had fully sterilized and then left and forgotten(not inoculated). i threw away most but decided to experiment with 4 of the jars. used 4 different methods of rehydrating/re-sterilizing. 2 made it, 2 didnt. colonization was slow, flush on the mini-mono i turned it into was nothing special either.
grains are cheap. toss em out and restart id say is always the better option in this situation.
