Sfd filter patches on plastic lids. Rtv silicone or adhere with melted plastic?
    #23357538 - 06/18/16 10:28 AM (7 years, 7 months ago)

I was just curious. Will melted plastic suffices. Such as when I burn the 3/8 inch GE hole, should I just press the sfd to the hole and push the still hot melted plastic on or should I take the extra measure with rtv?  Im cutting out nickle sized circles from the patches to adhere over 3/8inch holes.

I mean with the plastic?  I just as well use rtv in that case. Wasnt sure if one was better than another. Or if rtv adhered well enough to plastic lids.

you do have to scratch up the lids first

It could, but you want nice deep scratches to create more surface area.
I haven't made these lids so I don't know what is necessary, but I have a lot of experience with adhesives and epoxies.

Try the steel wool, but I would recommend taking an old knife or a screwdriver and scoring it.

Actually I found an old dremmel with a wire brush kind of fanned out attachment. It scratches it up pretty good.

I take a knife and just etch a square of straight lines around the hole, then I scratch diagonal lines across all of those horizontal and vertical lines, all in the same direction.  Comes out pretty damn rough.
