Seeking ID for Subs, Geelong, Vic. (Near Melbourne)
    #23356451 - 06/18/16 12:40 AM (7 years, 7 months ago)

Hi guys,

Can you guys please give me another opinion?

I'm 90% sure that I have found psilocybe subaeruginosa. They are common in South East Australia and New Zealand. I've picked them before

They are bruised bluey-green (on the whitish, solid stems and shiny blueness arising on the golden caps). As they've aged/dried, the stems are going black. The attached gills are golden to brown.

They were found on a moist residential garden bed with old wood chips and bark in Geelong (near Melbourne) Victoria. I wanted to post in the Vic season thread but apparently no I'd requests in there!!

The spore prints are a dark colour, not sure if a black colour or a dark brown...

I picked the little ones because the weather was getting warmer and dryer and they were going to die (raining and cold yesterday though so hopefully more to come!)

Would love some quick opinions as I want to feel sure before I munch some down later today!!

Thanks all

Hey thanks for your reply - I know! The images wern't posting correctly... It's been a little while since i've made a post on a forum and there's many different ways to link to photos etc, but I ended up uploading some decent photos through the shroomery tool.

Would you mind having a geez now?

Thanks

Thank you for your reply! I have actually dispersed some of the rotting and bug-eaten specimens into the garden, and also double checked every single mushroom for the blue-green tinged shining through.

Looks like my lot will be making a nice brew of tea tonight

Hey everyone, just posting to let all lurkers and hunters know that I had a great experience eating these wth my friends last weekend and we also brewed heaps of tea. Not too strong but a nice trip that was good for all (6-7 people).

SECOND ID REQUEST!! (Might as well use the same thread eh?)

I've found some more, but I've been letting them grow for a few days because it's been raining and they're a bit small.
Completely different region of Melbourne (near CBD this time) but similar mulchy, moist bark material on man made garden beds.
These golden caps are coming up wth strong white stems that have a blue hue, but I won't know for sure until I snip some off and take better photos.

Can anyone agree that they look like subs? I might pick them in about ten minutes if they're by enough, for the weekend. I'll post photos of their undersides then too.

Thanks again guys! And keep enjoying this season!

Yes these photos are from Tuesday and Wednesday and i left them to grow bigger for the weekend, and I go to cut them last thing Friday night after Unj and found that some other lucky bugger has taken them!!!! I then spent about two hours scrambling through bush and wet mulch to scrape up little stragglers here and there.

I would love to go and find a big Batch where I can pick a bag full and dry for later in the year...

the tragedy of the commons - leave the wee ones, and some other bugger picks them!
