Found a few nice looking boletes in NJ but could use some help with ID. On ground under mixed 5 needle pine, birch, beech cap 1 - 4" smooth brown, felt like appearance when young, flesh white non bruising Stipe ~ 1/4-1/2" diameter, straight non-bulbous, solid, reddish brown, some striation but not clearly reticulate, no scabers or dots Pores - yellow, separate easily, boletinoid?, instantly bruise dark blue black No distinct odor

Xerocamellus truncatus was a thought but highly uncertain
Thanks G

Quite similar to the European´s Xerocomus badius.
Have no idea if it is also present in the US.
cheers

Thanks seems to match what is now called Imleria badia. Do you eat them? I'm pretty comfortable with that ID (key features match including Kuo's "description" of the stipe but hopefully a TI will weigh in also - thanks again. G

xerocomus badius is considered an average edible, i personally do not eat it mainly because at the same time it appears i can easily find boletes of the edulis section, i.e. B.edulis, B.pinophilus, B. reticulatus and B. aereus. But know people that really appreciate it.
But if you are sure of the id and curious about its taste you can serve yourself a good meal. At least in europe there are no poisonous lookalikes.

Is this Xerocomus (Imleria) badius?
Description as below with additional detail as follows:
Olive spore print (greenish brown) Flesh under pores white but bruises blue briefly when exposed and reverts to white.
Thanks G
