I'm so excited. 5 days in the FC and we have pins
I really didn't think it was going to happen because I have not seen any hyphal knots just some aerial mycelium down near the bottom.
But there they are WOOT!!!

It looks like there are one or 2 pins on each of the 8 cakes.
Do you keep misting and fanning when the pins start?
Thanks everyone!

From the limited experience I have i'm pretty sure you're not supposed to directly mist the pins. Keep the FAE frequent but don't over do it. Maybe once a day or every other day.
I'll wait for a more experienced member to chime in.
Nice work! You'll be able to enjoy those very soon.

FAE is constant, usually via holes, you don't "give FAE", and she should certainly mist the pins directly, they're thirsty. If your experience is limited to the point you think FAE can be "frequent" then maybe uh.. you know... read a bit?
Cut back misting about ~24 hours prior to harvest to avoid waterlogged fruits or extended drying times.

it is putting fresh air in the FC while moving the CO2 out...
FRESH AIR in EXCHANGE for carbon dioxide..
it is essentially a fresh air exchange..
I appreciate you correcting me but you see where this becomes blurry, no?

No. It's not blurry, you're simply incorrect. It's okay, though. Happens to the best of us sometimes.
FAE is a constant exchange. Not when you think of it every couple of days. This literally can be the difference between a good flush and a measly one.

I got holes galore and my FC is 3" off the table so FAE should be engaged
The thing I fret about is moisture. My cakes never seem to be "glistening" so I have been mainly misting first thing in the a.m and the last thing at night. Fanning a few times during the day.
Mostly just giving them love

Don't even fan 'em.
It can only cause problems, ok? Keep it up!

From what I've read and from personal experience misting them directly without fanning will cause more aborts.
Correct me if I'm wrong, I don't mist or fan my monotubs anymore and I'm yet to use any kind d of casing

DO NOT FAN, PLEASE.
This was what people did back when they thought mushrooms like dark, dank habitats with stagnant air, but needed pinning. Pinning mostly triggered by surface evaporation.
If you have an SGFC or a dialed-in mono, you have FAE going at all times. Fanning can only stress out your substrate. If you'd like I can bring a team of people here to say the same.
Myco Fan, if you are getting aborts from misting and not fanning, you're over-misting
You can drown mushrooms and mycelium just like you can drown plants.

If you mist exactly the right amount you don't really have to fan to jumpstart evaporation. Give it 2 minutes and it'll have done it itself.

fanning is almost pointless, and totally unnecessary

For the record dankington didn't actually bring anybody here, if he had done so there would be even more people saying the same.

Well I mean, technically, if we used the crappy fruiting chambers of yesteryear, fanning really would be beneficial and make a difference. It's just not in line with current best practices.
