Grow house upgrades

We've been fortunate enough to make some upgrades to the farm lately. After bagging about 100,000 lbs of substrate by hand we upgraded to a mixer/bagger. To make best use of this we had to upgrade our steaming to a small shed. It's 12x8 and holds 500 bags on rolling racks. 4x6kw steamers. The shed is right outside the lab so it's cut out the loading and unloading time. Which was about 30 or 40 min for 100 bags. We also got a spawn dispenser that holds about 20 lbs perfectly. That's cut down a bit on labor as well, and saving my shoulder.

Lookin good man! So with this spawn dispenser, I take it that's in front of a massive flowhood? How do you sterilize the funnel? And are you just manually metering the grain weight? I'm sure there is a way you could rig two valves with a gap between to more precisely meeter without the need of a scale. Thanks for sharing!

Hey Drake, got a question about your sauna steamer set up. If I understood well you got your steamers hooked up to the small shed/extension, right? Much bigger than your two 100 gallon barrels, right. How long does it take to heat the whole bunch up? And what's the electricity consumption? I'm asking because I'm looking for a way to sterilize more bags with my wood fired boiler. Have to automate it and I'm looking for a way to build a bigger steam vessel than the two 55 gallon barrels I got now. Was thinking about constructing a shed like construction like you have now. Might use concrete though, but I'm not sure if that's the best solution cause heat is going into concrete and it's probably gonna take more time to heat it up.

Current set up, want to replace barrels by bigger steam chamber

Yea i would say concrete isn't the best option Its a lot of thermal mass. Something like what drake made, a insulated steel shed would be better.

12hrs on at 4x6kw is about 250kwh or $25 per run. It's takes almost the full 12hrs to get the bags core to 212. Then 24hrs cool down.

In image 7. I see a green 6" 400 cfm. inline blower and a 24"x24"x12" Hepa filter.
Is this unit for cooling down your steam room shed or do you run this during your steam cycle?
I see steam coming out of your vent on the roof image 5. Is this vent open during your steam cycle?
Thanks in advance....

cool down and the vent is just a simple pipe that's always open. the filters are 2x99.97 filters in series for 99.999 filtering.

It has 2 layers of bubble foil insulation and I went back and added 1/2" foam board to retain more heat. Holds about 205 now vs 170 with just the foil

Get a drain on it, drain after every cycle. That will also help with reducing electrolysis and rust.

I did not realize you could combine lesser filters to improve the overall filter. Was just checking around and came up short, is there somewhere I could find more info on this? Might be useful for making small filters for intake on my chambers

I've seen that first link, I was curious to what freight would be, just a ballpark.
That ebay link is pretty cool tho I might need to keep an eye out for something like that!
I'm making 4 40lbs bags of supplemented sawdust a week and it's such a pain in the ass lol. It would be so cool to have a bagger mixer combo. Bagging is pretty lame too..
I got a cement mixer and a big ass tub. But after I put 2 40 lb bags in and bran it's super full, and it's a pain to make sure the edges are mixed evenly along the bottomed esspecially. I think I'm going to get a big cattle feed thing or something tho, it should make it alot easier. And I'm probably just going to build little funnel things out of duct to make bagging easier, and get a more appropriate scoop for measuring. But idk it's not too much. But it would be 20x easier and I could probably do a little more if I wanted.

There's also this thing from meyers mushroom: automatic wet bagger
he also has a video that shows you can make something similar for very cheap.
anyways, its different than batch mixing but im wondering why you would want to mix everything up before inoculating? it seems easier to just add the dry ingredients + water to a bag and mix at spawning.
i think your trough idea is good. even just a few big totes would work, you can use a paddle mixer and a high torque drill to get the mixing done quick. get a flow meter for your hose so you can add exact amounts of water per batch.
