Their dog has been outside all morning today unattended. I don't even want to take my dogs outside at all at this point. Ugh.

What's more reasonable.. Asking that every pet owner buys a huge piece of land so you don't have to hear them, or buying yourself a huge piece of land so you can't end up by neighbors and hear them? Hm... :strokebeard:

As for the OP, I don't care whose responsibility it is to maintain the fence, if my dog was at risk because of my neighbors aggressive dogs that they leave outside and neglect, I'd take the necessary steps to protect my dog. I actually have that problem. The neighbors behind me have a super aggressive piece of shit they leave outside like 24/7 and the damn thing is constantly jumping up on the wooden fence. The fence is not in great shape (it got knocked down in a hurricane and has never been sturdy since) and he's nearly knocked it over a few times. I had to go out there and brace it up. Dog busted holes in the wood with his head trying to get at my kid and my dogs, had to go out there and fix that as well. They're damn sure not going to do it. Haven't had much of an issue since that but eventually I'm going to have to just rebuild that whole fence.

Nothing appeals to me no one feels like me, I’m too busy being calm to disappear.
I’m in no shape to be alone contrary to the shit that you might hear.

I cant believe people are actually defending the rott owner. They just sat there and watched there poorly trained dog maul a lapdog. I wouldve shot that dog right in front of them then laughed at the shocked look on their faces. Fuck that dog.

We move in a few months. My wife is just finishing up nursing clinicals and we are gone. It can be someone else's problem.

I have never been woken up by dog barking at 2:30 A.M. Have been woken up by my neighbor playing drums poorly though.

In my experience, animal control takes "aggressive" dogs and puts them down once there has been an attack.  I think it's wrong to sentence an animal to death because of both your negligence.  That's what I'd consider to be unnecessary involvement of LE when the whole thing was a direct result of both of you not taking the necessary measures to protect your dogs.  I just don't think the Rottweiler should have to die because he has a shitty owner.

Based on responses, I guess it's a ridiculous thing to suggest that maybe the two owners should be men and settle their dispute like adults,  and that animal control shouldn't have to be brought in to exterminate a living being who got dealt a shit hand...all because you both failed to secure your dogs' perimeters.

I certainly blame the Rottweiler owner.  People that let their dogs get like that are pieces of shit.  But you can't deny that when you live by something like that you play some responsibility in protecting your dog.  We don't live in a safe hippie dippie world and when we take ownership of a pet we assume responsibility for them.  It's our responsibility to protect our animals too.

Not sure if this was mentioned or not... But don't ever take your gun out because a dog is attacking your dog.

Animals are considered property and you cannot use lethal force to protect property unless your life is threatened.  I hate that animals are considered property but thats how the laws were written and you would end up in jail for it.
