The Great Poppy Plant

So for all the people who dont call themselves yankees, spring is right around the corner. Us southeners must unite to make this a great poppy season. I read somewhere that around 57 F is the temp that it needs to be below for seeds to germinate and break the dormant cycle . Is this true? The reason for this post is for people to post information, tips, and thier expeirences growing poppies on a small scale. I heard for the south states that planting in fall is best, with better results. I heard that planting early spring when its cold is perfectly ok also, because once the plants get out of the first stages of growth, the cold temperature doesent even matter, and they will survive the summer.. Can anyone tel me how cold is too cold for the seedlings? Its been getting around the low 30's in the evenings, mid 40's-50's during the day. I think now is the time, but Im not sure. How cold does it have to be for the seedlings to die? Im sure under 32 F and they wil die of frost right? I hope some experts with good information can reply. Have a good day.


Please not, this is in referance to NON OPIUM CONTAINING POPPIES... maybe someone will reply now!!

I'd like some imput if anyone can answer ther question on temperature, or is that to advance for you all?

they'll sprout in warm weather from my experience, I tossed some in a pot last summer and they just need to be moist. They grow like weeds man. I'm not saying its not best to sprout when its cold, but they'll sprout above 57 for sure.
